🇺🇸 Happy Labor Day from Reese & Community VFC

Today, we recognize the hard work, dedication, and contributions of working men and women throughout our community and across our nation.

Here at Reese, we see that spirit of hard work every day. Our volunteers come from all walks of life and countless professions—and when the workday ends, many of them continue serving by answering calls, training, fundraising, supporting community events, and doing the many behind-the-scenes jobs that keep a volunteer fire company going.

This Labor Day, we’re especially grateful for all who work hard and still find time to give back.

To our members, our neighbors, and working families everywhere: thank you for all you do.

From all of us at Reese & Community Volunteer Fire Company, Happy Labor Day! 🇺🇸🚒

🚌 Back to School Means Back to School Safety! 🎒

Today marks the first day of school for students across our area! As buses return to the roads, students head back to bus stops, and families settle into new routines, the Reese & Community Volunteer Fire Company would like to wish our students, teachers, administrators, bus drivers and school staff a safe and successful school year! 💙💛

For all of us sharing the roads, the start of school is also a good time to refresh a few important safety habits.

🛑 Drivers — watch for school buses.
Slow down, allow extra travel time and be prepared for frequent stops. When a school bus is stopped with its red lights flashing, STOP as required by law. Never attempt to pass a stopped school bus when its red lights are activated.

👀 Watch for children.
Kids may be walking along roads, waiting at bus stops or crossing streets—sometimes in places you aren't accustomed to seeing them during the summer. Be especially alert during the morning and afternoon school hours.

📵 Put the phone down.
A few seconds of distraction behind the wheel can have devastating consequences. School zones, bus stops and neighborhoods filled with children deserve your complete attention.

🚸 Parents and students — talk about bus stop safety.
Wait in a safe location away from traffic, avoid horseplay near the roadway, and never approach the bus until it has completely stopped. When crossing, make sure the bus driver can see you and always look carefully for other vehicles.

🚗 Expect more traffic.
Those quiet summer morning commutes are over! Give yourself a few extra minutes, be patient with school buses and other drivers, and remember that everyone is adjusting to new schedules and routines.

And perhaps the most important reminder:

That school bus isn't simply slowing down your morning commute. It's carrying someone's child. ❤️

Let's start this school year by looking out for one another and helping make sure every student gets to school safely and back home safely.

From all of us at the Reese & Community Volunteer Fire Company, have a wonderful first day and a safe school year! 📚✏️🚌

Reese Members Train on Ropes, Knots and Stokes Basket Operations

A beautiful summer evening made for a pretty great backdrop for our monthly company training last night!

This month, members focused on ropes and knots, putting those skills to work with our Stokes basket and practicing how it can be safely used to move a patient over inclined and uneven terrain.

Training nights are about much more than practicing a skill. They’re an opportunity for experienced members to share what they know, newer members to get hands-on experience, and our volunteers and Carroll County Fire & EMS personnel to train together as the team that will respond together when we're needed.

And judging by a few of our pictures, we may have even had some of the next generation getting an early introduction. 😉🚒

Good weather. Good training. And a whole lot of learning across generations.

Just another evening at Reese. ❤️

💰 What a Day at the Big Money Giveaway!

What a way to wrap up an incredible summer of events at Reese! ❤️🚒

Our 2026 Big Money Giveaway was a huge success, and after watching that weather forecast all week, we were especially grateful that the weather held out for us! 🙌

There was plenty happening throughout the day—cash prizes being awarded, delicious food coming out of the kitchen, and Bootleg keeping the grounds rocking with great music. 🎶

And, of course, there was one number everyone was waiting to hear...

🎉💰 Congratulations to our $20,000 Grand Prize winner, Randy Harris! 💰🎉

Congratulations as well to all of our cash prize winners throughout the day. With $50,000 in total cash prizes awarded, there were plenty of reasons to celebrate!

We also want to extend a special thank you to DK Jewelers for their generous donation of a gift certificate to our event. And to Weise Guy Crabs for the donation of the bushel of crabs and shrimp for our raffles. Support from local businesses like DK Jewelers means so much to our volunteer fire company, and we are grateful for their generosity.

To everyone who purchased a ticket, came out for the day, enjoyed a meal, bought a drink, listened to the band, volunteered, worked behind the scenes, or simply helped us spread the word—THANK YOU.

Events like Big Money are fundraisers, but they're also opportunities to gather with the people who continue to show up for Reese year after year. Your support directly helps the Reese & Community Volunteer Fire Company continue serving our community.

Take a look through some of the photos from the day. 📸 We think the smiles tell the story pretty well!

And if you missed this year's Big Money Giveaway—or you're already ready to do it again—we have good news...

📅 SAVE THE DATE: Saturday August 21, 2027

We'll see you next year! 💰❤️🚒

Reese Members Practicing “The Stretch”

This afternoon, after a busy weekend of emergency responses and supporting the annual Big Money fundraiser, several volunteers and career staff dedicated several hours to deploying hose lines into a structure used for simulated fires.

The process of placing hose lines in position and advancing them into a building to control a fire is commonly known as "The Stretch."

Ongoing training is essential to ensure that crews are prepared to deliver the highest level of service possible.
