Westminster Police Department Launches New Drone Program

The Westminster Police Department is proud to announce the launch of our new drone program.

Through a partnership between the Tom Fors Memorial Fund and the Westminster Police Association, $12,000 was donated to purchase a DJI Matrice 4T drone and related equipment.

In recognition of Tom’s lasting connection to public safety, the drone has been named TF1 in his honor.

TF1 may assist with missing-person searches, critical incidents, accident and crime-scene documentation, major community events, and other situations in which an aerial view can help protect the public and emergency responders.

TF1 will be operated by trained personnel for legitimate public-safety purposes and will not be used for random or routine surveillance.

On behalf of the Town, the Select Board unanimously accepted this generous gift at Monday night’s meeting.

We sincerely thank Davin and Karen Fors, the Tom Fors Memorial Fund, and the Westminster Police Association for making this program possible. We also thank McGovern MHQ for its continued partnership and for generously donating the lettering for TF1 and our new police motorcycle.

This generous support enhances our public-safety capabilities without placing the cost of the equipment on local taxpayers.

New to the Westminster Police Department Fleet

We are excited to announce the addition of a police motorcycle to our fleet as part of a pilot program. The motorcycle was obtained through a cost-conscious lease, allowing the Department to evaluate its effectiveness without committing to a permanent purchase.
Throughout the remainder of the year, residents will see the motorcycle patrolling our community and assisting with proactive traffic enforcement and other traffic-related concerns.

The Department currently has two certified motorcycle operators and is working to certify two additional officers. This program will provide another valuable resource to enhance traffic safety, increase our visibility, and strengthen our community policing efforts.

Please drive safely and keep an eye out for our motor officers on the road!

“Every August 31, International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD) brings a global community together to take action on overdose. Hold an event, spread the message, take action today.

This year the theme for IOAD is 25 Years On. Still Needed.

For 25 years, International Overdose Awareness Day has brought people together to remember those we’ve lost and to take action to save lives.

The truth is, we shouldn’t still need this day. But we do.

Overdose continues to affect every community. Yet it can be prevented. We know how to reduce risk and keep people safe. By speaking openly, learning from one another, and treating each other with care and respect, we build a world where fewer lives are lost.

Because while this day is still needed, it doesn’t have to be forever.

🚧 ROAD CLOSURE NOTICE – WEST MAIN STREET 🚧 August 20 -August 21

The Westminster Police Department would like to advise residents and motorists that West Main Street, in the area of 50 West Main Street will be closed again tonight to ALL through traffic tonight, August 20 from 9:00 PM until approximately 5:00 AM August 21 due to a water main break.

Local residents will be able to access their residences; however, vehicles will not be able to travel past 50 West Main Street.

Motorists should plan ahead, seek alternate routes, and allow extra travel time. Please use caution and follow all posted detours and directions from crews working in the area.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation while repairs are completed.

⚠️ West Main Street Repair Update

Due to an unexpected mechanical issue with a piece of equipment, crews were unable to complete last night’s water service leak repair. The issue has been resolved, and the Westminster Department of Public Works will return tonight, Thursday, August 20, at 9:00 p.m. to complete the work.

West Main Street will be closed between 48 and 49 West Main Street. Traffic restrictions and a temporary disruption to water service are expected.
