Traffic Advisory: McDaniel Welcome Walk 🚧

Motorists should expect temporary road closures and traffic delays in Downtown Westminster:
Date: Saturday, August 22, 2026
Time: 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM

Approximately 450 incoming McDaniel College students will walk from McDaniel College to the Carroll County Public Library as part of this annual tradition introducing students to the Westminster community.

Road Closures & Traffic Impacts:

10:00 AM – 11:00 AM: Intersections along W. Main Street from Union Street to Railroad Avenue/MD Route 27 will experience periodic closures to allow students to cross safely.

Approximately 10:30 AM – 11:00 AM: E. Main Street from Longwell Avenue to Railroad Avenue/MD Route 27 will be fully closed.

Please plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and consider using alternate routes if traveling through the downtown area during these times.

We were proud to welcome local law enforcement and Special Olympics athletes to McDaniel College today as part of the Carroll County Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Maryland!

For over 20 years, the Department of Campus Safety has proudly participated in this meaningful tradition, helping to raise awareness and support for the incredible athletes of Special Olympics. This year's event brought energy, unity, and inspiration to campus as the torch made its way down W. Main Street and onto the Hill.

A special thank you to President Jasken for joining us and welcoming the runners, walkers, bikers, and to all the officers, volunteers, and supporters who made this event possible.

Tomorrow is the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Carroll County! Please be aware of possible traffic delays on the routes listed below as local law enforcement agencies celebrate Special Olympics Maryland.

The Runners: Leave at 9:45 AM from Carroll Community College – Route 32 North – Center Street – Main Street - McDaniel College

The Walkers: Leave at 10:00 AM from the Farm Museum – Center Street – Main Street – McDaniel College

The Bikers: Leave at 9:30 AM from Taneytown Memorial Park – Baltimore Street – Route 140 – WMC Drive – McDaniel College
