Today I sent a letter to YouTube and Alphabet urging them to temporarily suspend enforcement of copyright claims originating from foreign entities that have been accused of abusing the platform's Content ID system.
For too long, American creators, artists, record labels, and small businesses have faced questionable copyright claims that divert revenue away from the rightful owners of content. These actions can result in demonetized videos, lost income, and significant harm to entrepreneurs who rely on digital platforms to reach their audiences.
I am calling on YouTube to take immediate action to protect legitimate rights holders, ensure due process, and prevent bad actors from exploiting automated systems at the expense of American creators.
