As many of you are out enjoying your long weekend, please remember that today is a sacred day intended to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. It is about the fallen heroes who gave their tomorrows so that we could have our todays. These soldiers were friends, husbands, wives, parents, children, coworkers, and business owners who never got their welcome-home hugs.

Never forget the true reason behind this day and may we always, always honor and remember the fallen❤️🤍💙

IMPORTANT NOTICE: MINI BIKE RIDERS 🚨

As summertime approaches, the Westland Police Department would like to remind everyone that riding mini bikes, go carts, and ATV's on public roadways and sidewalks is ILLEGAL and poses serious risks to both riders and pedestrians.

🛑Why is it illegal? 🛑

These vehicles are not designed for the road as they are not equipped with necessary safety features such as lights, mirrors, and turn signals. They often lack proper registration and insurance.

Violators may face fines, impoundment of vehicle, and other legal consequences.

City Ordinance:
No person shall operate a motor-driven cycle, minibike, special purpose motor vehicle or go-cart.
(1) Upon any public sidewalk, walkway, parkway, public park, recreational area, school or college grounds, or upon any other publicly owned property.

Safety for our citizens is our priority! Thank you for your cooperation!

The Westland Police Department would like to congratulate Officer LaLonde and Officer Howaniec on their graduation from the Western Wayne Swat school last week. Officer LaLonde and Howaniec endured a rigorous, 2-week training with Western Wayne Swat that was both a test of their physical and mental fitness. They are the first officers from Westland PD to be a part of the Western Wayne Swat team. This is a tremendous accomplishment and we commend them for their dedication and commitment to the team.

The Westland Police Department would like to congratulate our newest Police Officers on their recent graduation from the Wayne County Regional Police Academy!

Officers Hunt, Klotz, and Souders completed their training last week from the Wayne County Regional Police Academy, each earning their MCOLES certification. This week, they will go through in-house training at the Westland PD before being paired up with numerous senior officers and completing the field training program. Please join us in welcoming these new officers to our department!

Officer Souders is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, where he served for 6 years after he completed high school. Throughout his career within the Marine Corps, Officer Souders was promoted to a Sergeant and a squad leader. He was deployed three times, including to Afghanistan as part of the Operation Allied Refuge during the 2021 withdrawal from Afghanistan. Officer Souders cites his career within the Marine Corps as what lead him to pursue a career in Law Enforcement. Outside of work, Officer Souders enjoys working out in the gym, body building, and spending time with his fiancé and family.

Officer Klotz grew up in Westland and attended Franklin High school before starting a career in construction as a sprinkler fitter. With a desire to serve the community he was raised in, Officer Klotz was hired by the Westland Police Department in 2024 as a Police Cadet. While he was working as a Cadet with Westland, Officer Klotz continued his education at Schoolcraft college to prepare himself for the challenges of public service. Officer Klotz is excited to be able to continue to serve his community right within his hometown of Westland. In his free time, Officer Klotz enjoys watching the Lions and cheering on Michigan Football.

Officer Hunt was raised in Taylor, MI, and later completed high school in Dearborn. He later attended Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee for political science. In 2020, Officer Hunt received his certification in nutrition and personal training. During his career as a personal trainer, Officer Hunt felt the calling to serve the community in a more meaningful way, and was driven towards a career in law enforcement. In his free time, Officer Hunt enjoys spending time with his family, his fiancee, getting in reps in the gym, and cheering on the Pistons in their playoff run.

When you see these officers around our city, be sure to say hello! We are incredibly excited to see what outstanding Police Officers they will become.
