🌟Grantee Spotlight🌟

This year, Michael Hall expanded Code & Fly Club, a popular STEM program at Walker Winter Elementary. With funds from WWEF, he was able to complete a class set of drones and add more obstacles!

Students work independently and collaboratively to plan, code, and test the flight path of their drones. This week, young programmer/pilots worked to navigate their drones through 3 separate hoops.

On top of coding, club members practice the skills of observation, problem solving, caring for equipment, and spatial awareness as they navigate around the drones of their peers and the occasional haywire drone! They ask questions like "Why did it do that?" and "Why is it going so fast all of the sudden?" and the ever-prevalent "What the heck?!" as conditions such as backdraft and coding errors change the anticipated outcome of a flight trial.

Thanks to our generous donors and supporters, Wayne Westland Education Foundation can support innovative educators like Mr. Hall as he expands the reach of exciting STEM programming for elementary students.

Congratulations to our Board member Dr. Cost on being named Superintendent of Wayne-Westland Community Schools! The Wayne Westland Education Foundation looks forward to our continued collaboration.

Wayne-Westland Community Schools Board of Education is pleased to announce that Dr. Catherine Cost has been named as the district's next Superintendent.

Last night marked a meaningful milestone for our district. Following several months of community input, stakeholder engagement, and robust public participation, the Wayne-Westland Community Schools Board of Education conducted final interviews with three outstanding candidates for our next Superintendent.

Following those interviews, the Board voted to appoint Dr. Catherine Cost as the next Superintendent of Wayne-Westland Community Schools, effective July 1, 2026 — pending successful contract negotiations.

The Board is deeply grateful to every community member who completed a survey, attended a forum, or shared feedback that helped define the qualities we sought in our next leader.

We are excited about what lies ahead. Dr. Cost joins a district supported by an engaged community and a dedicated team of educators committed to the success of every child. Together, we have every reason to look forward with confidence and optimism.

Please join the Board of Education in warmly welcoming Dr. Catherine Cost to the Wayne-Westland family. The best is yet to come.
