On World Elder Abuse Awareness Day it is a good time to think about scams that seem to target the older population. If someone is telling you to put cash into a Crypto/BitCoin ATM IT IS A SCAM. If someone is directing you to buy gift cards and read the serial numbers over the phone or take photos of the cards IT IS A SCAM. Education is key. Talk to your loved ones and neighbors so they think twice before acting. Call WPD for advice if you have questions whether something is legit.

Warm weather and kids out of school brings thoughts of Summer fun including pools. Safety is key!

Prevention is key and there are plenty of resources for parents to help prevent drowning in the future. The AAP has a great toolkit available with videos for parents as well as PSAs that you can download and send home with families!

**Provide constant adult supervision, even with lifeguards.

**Until a child demonstrates swimming competency, they need to have touch supervision. This means an adult is within reach AT ALL TIMES. This includes baby pools, bath tubs etc.

**US Coast Guard approved life jackets are considered the BEST flotation/safety devices. Families might feel strongly about others, including puddle jumpers.

**Start swim lessons ASAP once the child is over 12 months old. Infants don’t have the coordination or neck strength to hold their face out of the water until usually around 12 months. After that, swim lessons are fair game!

**AVOID WATER. Dump all buckets, pools, coolers with melted ice, trash cans with water, etc as soon as you can. Make sure pools, ponds, etc have fences with gates and that all access areas to water are child-proofed.

The Westlake Police Department would like to thank everyone who came out to help recognize "Secure your Load" day at the Rocky River Home Depot on Saturday, June 6th!! it was a really great day. It was also the first Saturday of the month, so all the Junior DIYers were at Home Depot practicing their building skills

We would like to send a special thanks to the Manager of Home Depot Rocky River Michael F. who provided all the great raffle prizes and was a great partner throughout the planning and implementation of this great event. Westlake PD would also like to say a special "Hi Partner" to our new friend Carson!! Officer Josh of Westlake and Officer Jeff of Rocky River met Carson at the Home Depot while he was practicing his building skills. He, and all the kids did a GREAT job!!

Thanks to our peers at the Rocky River Police Department for your continued support.

During this summer season, as you load and transport your supplies, don't allow your cargo to fall out onto the roadways. Have a plan to secure whatever you are carrying. ... so tie down your loads, and stay safe!! Rocky River Police Department; The Home Depot

Mark June 6 on your calendar!
June 6th is National Highway Transportation Safety Administration "Secure Your Load Day." In an effort to help keep drivers, pedestrians, and our roads safe, as we move into the summer when most people move residences, buy large items like grills and mowers and try to find "creative ways" to get large purchases home, the Westlake and Rocky River Police Departments are teaming up with the Rocky River Home Depot.
