Protect yourself from "Check Washing" Scams:
Do not put outgoing bills in unattended or unlocked mailboxes. If possible, take outgoing mail to the local post office.
When writing checks, use a gel ink pen - this type of ink permeates the check fibers.
Do not leave blank spaces on the payee or amount lines of your checks.
Review bank statements regularly and report fraudulent transactions as soon as possible.
