We recently held a training on using the Jaws of Life in multiple crash scenarios. This tool helps extricate crash victims quickly and safely. Scissor-like blades can slice through thick metal (such as vehicle roofs and hinges) to create access points, and pincer-like arms can be inserted into narrow gaps to pry doors open or push crushed panels apart. It was a great training for both our fire crew and ambulance crew.

Alcohol use is the leading known contributing factor in fatal boating accidents, resulting in about 80 to 100 deaths every year in the United States alone. Across all boating incidents, alcohol accounts for approximately 15% to 20% of all recreational boating fatalities. (source: United States Coast Guard)

Westgate Fire and Rescue has participated in multiple CRP training burns during the end of March into April.
Controlled burns are intentionally set, low-intensity fires that are used to reduce hazardous fuels and prevent wildfires. A controlled burn can also recycle nutrients, improve habitats, and control invasive species.
