The primary purpose of the Westford Police Department is to provide a high level of safety, security and service for all members of the community. As a regulatory agency of local government, the police department has the direct responsibility for the preservation of the public peace, for the reductio

n of the opportunity to commit crime, and for the effective delivery of a wide variety of police services. A large suburban society free from crime and disorder remains an unachieved ideal. Nevertheless, consistent with the values of a free society, it is the primary objective of the Westford Police Department to as closely as possible approach that ideal.

Earlier today, members of the Westford Police Department and Honor Guard joined fellow first responders from the Westford Fire Department and Honor Guard, U.S. Congresswoman Lori Trahan, State Representative James Arciero, members of the Selectboard, Town Manager Kristen Las, Westford Veterans Services Officer Colin Bode, town staff, and members of the community at the Town of Westford’s 25th Anniversary 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony.

The touching ceremony honored the 2,977 innocent lives lost on September 11, 2001, as well as the thousands who have since lost their lives to illnesses attributed to the attacks.

We also remembered two members of our own community, Westford residents Susan MacKay and James Hayden, who tragically lost their lives that morning. Their lives, and the lives of all those lost that day, will never be forgotten.

As Congresswoman Trahan, Representative Arciero, and others reflected during the ceremony, 25 years later we continue to remember the incredible courage and sacrifice of the first responders and ordinary citizens who ran toward danger to help others.

We remember those we lost. We honor those who served. And we will never forget.

Twenty-five years later, their stories, their sacrifices, and their lives remain in our hearts.

We will never forget.

The Westford Police Department is proud to congratulate Public Safety Telecommunicator Ari Johnson on being featured as the “Hero Behind the Headset” in the Massachusetts State 911 Department’s August 2026 Newsletter!

Telecommunicator Johnson was recognized for his actions during an emergency medical call on Wednesday, April 15, 2026. During the call, Ari remained calm and professional while providing the caller with clear instructions on how to perform high-quality CPR on the patient until first responders arrived on scene.

His ability to provide immediate guidance and reassurance during a critical moment played a crucial role in getting lifesaving assistance underway and aided in the positive outcome of the incident.

Our 911 telecommunicators are often the first voice someone hears during an emergency, and their ability to remain calm, provide critical instructions, and coordinate help can make an incredible difference.

Congratulations, Telecommunicator Johnson, on this prestigious recognition, and thank you for your dedication, professionalism, and commitment to the Town of Westford, MA community. Job well done!

August gave our officers plenty of opportunities to get out of their cruisers and connect with the Westford community!

👮 From supporting young resident entrepreneurs selling lemonade, to jumping into community soccer matches, visiting summer camps at Good Pickin’ Farm, attending the town’s Community Block Party, and many other outings throughout the month, our officers enjoyed meeting residents and being part of the community.

These everyday interactions are an important part of community policing, and we’re grateful for all the conversations, smiles, and invitations to join in the fun!

📚 Looking Ahead to September:
🚸 School is back in session! Please be mindful of increased pedestrian traffic around school zones and throughout town as students walk to bus stops and schools. Patten Road is a 25 MPH zone, and officers will be increasing patrols around school zones to help ensure students and staff get to and from school safely.

💙 September is also National Su***de Prevention Awareness Month. The Westford Police Department has many resources available to assist individuals and families who may be struggling or in need of support. Please reach out and ask for help—you are not alone.

📞 Call or text 988 for the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline. In an emergency or when there is an immediate danger, call 911.

🎓 We wish all Westford students the very best of luck in the 2026–2027 school year! Have a safe and successful year!
