5/26 Recap: WA handbook approved with bell-to-bell phone ban; Gr6-12 school goals set; more health ins.
✳️Handbooks Approved: Stony/Blanchard had minor housekeeping or edits to match current practice. WA proposed banning phone usage during school day including lunch, passing time, DLT — partially in response to the likely state legislation coming. Plus, only five (down from six) unexcused absences allowed before student loses credit for the quarter.
✳️WA/SB/BMS Goals: school improvement plans for all three schools were approved; updates given on Fy26 work (equity audit, UDL, restorative practices & more) and plans for FY27 (more UDL, review tech usage, Wayfinder lessons, & more).
✳️Health ins: continued discussion from 5/11 Tri-board with consultant from Lockton on hand for questions. SB looking for input; recommendation possible at 6/1 meeting.
✳️Supt Review: Dr Chew presented his evidence of work towards his yearly goals as the kick off to our evaluation process which will conclude with a composite evaluation voted on at our 6/15 meeting.
✳️Robinson Project: Ed visioning work began; extensive existing facilities + traffic report in 5/12 meeting packet. Next forum will ask for input on grade levels (K-2/3-5 vs K-5) + centralized or neighborhood PK + ideal size of school project enrollment (small, med, large) and tradeoffs of all! Join us - Mon 6/1 6-7pm at Millennium or Zoom
✳️Policy: two have been up public comment (non-school choice and residency req) plus two soon (field trips and tuition fees). https://www.westfordk12.us/about/school-committee
