It’s a graduation week here in Westford!!

Time for us to celebrate our graduate…
Congratulations to Firefighter Vasilios “Billy” Krikoris and on graduating from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy’s Career Recruit Training Program.

This intensive 10-week program is led by some of the best the Massachusetts Fire Service has to offer, providing new firefighters from across the Commonwealth with the core skills they need as they begin their careers serving their communities. These skills form the foundation upon which these recruits will continue to build throughout their careers.

It has been great watching you grow in your role here in Westford. Congratulations on your achievement. Never stop learning. We wish you continued success and a long, healthy career.

This week, four of our firefighters marked a major milestone, celebrating both their one-year anniversary with the department and the successful completion of their probationary period.
During their first year, new members serve on probation to master essential skills. Upon graduation from this phase, firefighters receive their permanent badge number—an honor that stays with them throughout their entire career. This unique identifier is proudly displayed on both their badge and their helmet front.
We extend our sincere congratulations to these four firefighters on achieving this milestone, and we wish them long, safe, and successful careers serving the Westford community.

Westford Fire Department would like to extend our sincere thanks to Eagle Scout Troop 19 and Eagle Scout member Tabitha Kneeland for their incredible hard work and generosity in donating a new safety house for our SAFE education program.

This valuable training tool will help us educate children and families on fire behavior, demonstrate how firefighters combat fires, and reinforce the life-saving importance of sleeping with bedroom doors closed.

Troop 19 built a total of four safety houses, and Westford Fire was honored to be one of the lucky recipients. We are extremely grateful for the dedication, craftsmanship, and community spirit shown by Tabitha and the entire troop throughout this project.

Thank you for making a lasting impact on fire safety education in our community!

This Memorial Day, the members of the Westford Fire Department pause to honor and remember Captain Frederick Healy, who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving his country during World War II.

Frederick Healy was an active Captain with the Westford Fire Department when he reenlisted in the United States Army, having already served as a veteran of World War I. On September 27, 1944, while fighting in France, Capt. Healy was killed in action.

His courage, dedication, and selfless service to both his community and his nation represent the very best of the fire service and the military. Today, and always, we remember his sacrifice and honor his legacy.

May we never forget those who gave everything for our freedom.

Westford Police Department puts on a great program!

🚨 NOW ANNOUNCING THE 2026 WESTFORD POLICE YOUTH ACADEMY! 🚨

The Westford Police Department is excited to announce the return of our Youth Academy for Summer 2026! This free week-long program gives students the opportunity to experience several aspects of a career in law enforcement while learning the importance of teamwork, leadership, communication, and community involvement.

⏰ 8:00am – 2:00pm
📍 Westford Academy

This program is open to children of all Westford residents and Town employees entering 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. Space is limited!

Today, our interns joined the duty crew for a hands-on training exercise at our training facility.

Interns suited up in full turnout gear and SCBAs to experience simulated low-visibility and disorientation conditions while using hose lines to navigate their way to safety.

With the help of a theatrical fog machine, the building quickly filled with smoke-like conditions, creating a realistic training environment. Great work by our interns for staying focused, leading the way out, and successfully completing the exercise!

Today, our Chelmsford High School Fire Cadet interns along with two Westford Academy students serving internships with the Westford Fire Department sat down for oral board interviews as part of their training experience.

The panel was made up of four area fire service leaders: Westford Fire Department Chief Mike Denehy, Acton Deputy Fire Chief Chris Sammet, Concord MA Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Walter Latta, and Chelmsford Deputy Fire Chief Ryan Houle.

These students got a real seat at the table in a real hiring process. They asked questions, they answered under pressure, and they walked away knowing more of what it takes to compete in this profession.

A sincere thank you to Chief Denehy, Deputy Chief Sammet, and Assistant Chief Latta for giving their time and expertise to the next generation of the fire service.
