When Air National Guard units are not mobilized or under federal control, they report to the governor of their respective state, territory (Puerto Rico, Guam, Virgin Islands) or the commanding general of the District of Columbia National Guard. Each of the 54 National Guard organizations is supervised by the adjutant general of the state or territory. Under state law, the Air National Guard provid

es protection of life, property and preserves peace, order and public safety. These missions are accomplished through emergency relief support during natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes and forest fires; search and rescue operations; support to civil defense authorities; maintenance of vital public services and counterdrug operations. The Air National Guard's federal mission is to maintain well-trained, well-equipped units available for prompt mobilization during war and provide assistance during national emergencies (such as natural disasters or civil disturbances). During peacetime, the combat-ready units and support units are assigned to most Air Force major commands to carry out missions compatible with training, mobilization readiness, humanitarian and contingency operations such as Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. Air National Guard units may be activated in a number of ways as prescribed by public law. The Air National Guard provides almost half of the Air Force's tactical airlift support, combat communications functions, aeromedical evacuations and aerial refueling. In addition, the Air National Guard has total responsibility for air defense of the entire United States.

Changing history at the !

In 1997, A-10 tail number 79-0648 was placed on a pedestal just inside the main gate (then Falcon Drive).
"This display is dedicated to the pride and history of our unit," said Tech. Sgt. Rob Roy (now retired CMSGT). "This airplane represents a significant peice in history of the unit."

On May 19, 2026 the A-10 started its first journey to a new home on base, the "Field of Dreams", where most of the aircraft will be displayed.

Every year the 104th Fighter Wing honors the 13 fallen members of the wing.

“Honoring the fallen is one of the greatest commitments we hold as active service members,” said Glass. “To the families of the fallen, I know nothing I can say will assuage your loss. But please know that we think of you. We honor their names. We hold this F-100 in honor because of you.”

Please take a moment to read the 13 short stories of the fallen members. They were not only pilots but also cherished family members and active participants in their communities.

The 104th Fighter Wing was placed in lockdown following a report of a possible security threat received during an ongoing security exercise on the installation. The lockdown was initiated at approximately 9:45 a.m., and law enforcement personnel responded to the scene.
Following an investigation, it was determined that the initial report was inaccurate and no security emergency had occurred. The activity was exercise-related, and the situation was quickly clarified by personnel on scene, demonstrating the professionalism, communication, and readiness of Wing members in assessing and responding during exercise operations.

At approximately 1200 p.m. the all-clear from the lockdown was declared at the installation. An investigation into the initial report is ongoing. There is no threat to base personnel or the public.
