Westfield Technical Academy's nationally recognized Aviation Maintenance Technology program has received an extraordinary gift that will provide students with valuable hands-on learning opportunities for years to come.

Local supporter and aviation enthusiast Benjamin "Ben" Surner has generously donated a fully operational Cessna 310 multi-engine aircraft to the Aviation Maintenance Technology program. This significant contribution will allow students to gain real-world experience working with a complex twin-engine aircraft, further enhancing their technical skills and understanding of aviation systems.

The addition of the Cessna 310 represents an exciting advancement for the program, providing students with hands-on training in aircraft maintenance, inspection procedures, engine systems, avionics, and the operational components found in a functioning multi-engine aircraft. The aircraft will serve as a valuable instructional tool, allowing students to apply classroom knowledge in an authentic aviation environment.

"Opportunities like this are transformational for our students," said Stefan Czaporowski, Superintendent of Schools.

"The donation of this aircraft provides our Aviation Maintenance Technology students with access to real-world learning experiences that mirror the equipment and systems they will encounter in the aviation industry. We are incredibly grateful to Mr. Surner for his generosity and commitment to supporting career and technical education," said Galen Wilson, Aviation Department Chair.

Westfield Technical Academy's Aviation Maintenance Technology program is recognized as one of the premier aviation training programs in the country and is the only high school program in the United States authorized to offer students the opportunity to earn both Airframe and Powerplant certifications.

The donation reflects the strong partnership between the Westfield community and Westfield Technical Academy's mission to prepare students for high-demand careers through innovative, hands-on learning experiences.

"This aircraft will become an invaluable educational resource for our students," said Bruce Hastings, Principal of Westfield Technical Academy. "It will help prepare the next generation of aviation technicians, engineers, and aerospace professionals while inspiring students to pursue rewarding careers in aviation."

Westfield Technical Academy extends its sincere appreciation to Mr. Surner for his remarkable generosity and investment in student success.

Thanks to his support, the future of aviation education at Westfield Technical Academy is poised to soar to even greater heights.

Westfield Technical Academy is a career-technical high school serving students in Westfield and surrounding communities. The school offers a wide range of Chapter 74-approved career and technical education programs that prepare students for college, careers, military service, and lifelong success.

🎭❄️🚚 What a show! Last night, Mrs. Thielen’s third-grade class at Westfield River Elementary brought history to life with Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, a fun-filled musical celebrating Henry Knox’s incredible journey transporting cannons from Fort Ticonderoga to Boston during the American Revolution.

The performance featured four energetic musical numbers, students dressed as oxen, a snow machine, and even a confetti cannon finale! Along the way, students learned about Henry Knox’s connection to Westfield, making local history come alive right on stage.

Bravo to our talented performers, dedicated staff, and supportive families for an unforgettable production. We are so proud of the hard work, creativity, and enthusiasm our students displayed!

Paper Mill fourth graders recently engineered an unforgettable day at Six Flags, where STEM concepts came alive as they experienced the impact of gravity, motion, energy, and heat on every twist, turn, and drop. The students are grateful to the dedicated folks at the Paper Mill PTO, the WPS Transportation Office, the WPS Food Services Office, and the Westfield Gas & Electric Department for helping make this adventure run smoothly and safely. A special PAWS UP to the teachers and parent chaperones who provided support on the ground and in the air and shared in the thrills and laughter all day long!
