Renovations and remodeling projects can create hidden fire and life safety hazards when code requirements and fire protection features are overlooked. “Reverse Renovations” by National Fire Protection Association highlights the importance of maintaining fire and life safety systems throughout building updates, tenant improvements, and property changes.

As fire prevention professionals, inspectors, and AHJ’s, it is critical that we continue educating building owners, contractors, and the public on the importance of code compliance during all phases of construction and renovation. Protecting occupants starts long before an emergency occurs.

We encourage everyone in the fire and life safety community to take time to watch this important message and continue promoting safe building practices in the communities we serve.

⚡️ This year’s Fire Prevention Week theme reminds us that safe charging habits can make a big difference in preventing fires. From phones and laptops to e-bikes and power tools, rechargeable batteries are part of everyday life and using them safely is everyone’s responsibility.

The Fire Prevention Week campaign, “Charge Into Fire Safety™: Safe Charging Is a SUPERPOWER,” encourages families, schools, and communities to learn simple steps that help reduce charging-related fire risks.

🔋 Use approved charging equipment
🔋 Don’t overload outlets or power strips
🔋 Keep batteries away from extreme heat
🔋 Never charge devices under pillows or on beds
🔋 Replace damaged batteries and cords immediately

The Fire Inspectors Association of Indiana supports proactive fire and life safety education and prevention efforts that help keep our communities safe.

As we enter tornado season and continue to see the impact destructive storms can have across Indiana and the Midwest, we encourage citizens and AHJ’s to review the codes, standards, and emergency preparedness plans that apply to the communities they live in and serve.

Preparedness before disaster strikes is one of the most important aspects of fire and life safety. Fire prevention professionals play a critical role every day in helping communities reduce risk, improve resilience, and stay ready for emergencies.

NFPA has shared valuable disaster recovery and preparedness resources that can help communities better understand planning, response, and recovery efforts related to natural disasters.

From safety tips on generators to submerged EVs, NFPA can help the public and professionals recover from natural disasters.

🇺🇸 R.E.D. Friday – Remember Everyone Deployed 🇺🇸

Each Friday, we wear red as a simple reminder to keep the brave men and women of our Armed Forces who are deployed around the world in our thoughts.

The Fire Inspectors Association of Indiana proudly stands in support of those serving our country and the families who support them from home.

Take a moment today to remember those who sacrifice their time, comfort, and safety to protect our freedoms.
