Kevin Jackson is Genoa Township's most senior firefighter.

Today, he was bestowed the honor of carrying "Badge 1." He will carry this badge until he retires.

Kevin has been an integral part of this department since 2003, when he was hired. He has mentored many of our new firefighters through the years. He has served in committees within the department and served as our union's treasurer for many years. He has given selflessly for the duration of his time at Genoa Township.

Kevin was surprised with this distinction as he was joined by his wife, children, parents and mother-in-law.

This is not a new tradition within the fire service, but it is a new tradition for Genoa Township. There is not a finer man to carry this inaugural "Badge 1" than Kevin Jackson.

It's a promotion well-deserved and well-earned! Mike was joined by his wife and son. They pinned his new badge and presented his new helmet.

This week your firefighters were tested on air consumption.

We are so fortunate to partner with 3F Fitness. Their trainers come in weekly and put us through an assortment of physical workouts. Everything from stretching, weightlifting, cardio and many different styles of exercises.

This past week, your firefighters donned their gear, including SCBA, and mask, and did a full workout. This gives us an idea of how long we can work while "on air." This is a great way to truly discover our level of physical fitness.

Like many of you, we were out enjoying the warm weather this week.

Although, most of you were probably not doing this.

Our crews took advantage of a nice day to head to Shamrock Towing and work on our extrication skills.

We have a great relationship with Shamrock and they allow us to destroy cars headed for scrap. These training opportunities allow us to stay proficient with our extrication tools, try new techniques and give the newer firefighters a chance to learn.

Always ready and always learning!!

An early start to the morning as your Genoa Township firefighters assisted BST&G with a church fire.

Here you can see T441 assisting. You'll notice the truck is being used for it's horizontal reach. It's often thought that a ladder truck is used for vertical reach only. This horizontal set-up is far more common.

Great job by all companies on scene. Damage was minimal. No injuries reported. Everyone goes home!

Yes, on this very day, April 1, 2001, our fire department began full-time service!

We have been here for the fine folks of Genoa Twp. every day, every single hour for the last 24 years!
