Comrades, at some recent meetings and lunch meet ups, Alan talked about the VA Whole Health programs, which includes a leatherworking class every Friday at Tandy Leather on Morse Rd.. The Friday classes are completely free for enrolled Vets. All you have to do is contact them and enroll, 614-257-5854. The POC is Steve, but anyone at that number can help. Tandy also has Veteran's only classes at reduced rates in addition to the Friday sessions.
A second opportunity has just opened at Whole Health, as well. Stockhands is an equestrian center in Delaware, OH with two upcoming Veteran only workshops, also free for Vets. 1st is Thursday Sep 24 1100-1300 and the 2nd is Oct 8, same times. If interested, contact Traci at the VA 614-373-8711.
These programs are not primarily about making a wallet or belt or brushing a horse. They are about "processes" that we can learn and apply to other areas of our lives to help cope with stress or anxiety. A first step may be selecting the leather for the project...check box 1 completed! Then imagining a design...check box 2! Decorating...box 3, and so forth breaking the complex process that looks so daunting and bringing it down to bite-size steps.
Before you know it, you have a completed wallet or belt and most importantly, a map to apply to other areas of life that seem too complicated to deal with...breaking it down into it's various components and managing those one at a time to an end result.
There are limited spots in each of these programs, but currently do have space in both.
Contact those numbers above for details and signing up, if interested.
