Volunteer Fire Company of Western, Inc.

Volunteer Fire Company of Western, Inc. Official page of Volunteer Fire Company of Western, Inc. The Western Fire Department evolved from a bucket brigade in the 1800's.

Our mission is to serve and protect the life, property and environment of the residents and visitors of the Towns of Western, Steuben and surrounding communities. The fire department was incorporated in 1945. After being incorporated, the fire department supported two fire stations, one in Westernville, the other in North Western. In 1979 construction began on the new fire station, located on Rt.

46, just north of the hamlet of Westernville. In 1993 the North Western fire station was closed. The fire department is an essential part of the community. Our department covers the Town of Western and a portion of the Town of Steuben. We cover an area of approximately 67 square miles. The fire department is involved in community events, as well as serving in the time of need. Fire Department meetings are held on the first Monday of each month at 8:00 PM. Other Monday nights are reserved for work sessions. The Western Fire Department, in conjunction with New York State, has one of the best fire fighting training programs in the nation. There are a variety of training programs, ranging from support groups, medical technician, search & rescue, water rescue, or fire fighter. Also being offered is a new program for junior firefighters. If you are interested in a challenge, or want to get involved in the community, this could be the place for you! Stop by on Monday night, or call for more information. Leave a message at 827-4242 and we will return your call. It really feels great to volunteer and give back to the community!

Tonight members stopped by the Boonville Fire Station to present a check from the proceeds of our Chicken BBQ.

Our department came together for one purpose — to stand behind four firefighters and a pastor who were seriously injured in the recent propane explosion. These men walked into danger not for recognition, not for reward, but because protecting others is simply who they are.
When that explosion happened, their lives changed in an instant. But so did ours. Moments like these remind us that the fire service is more than a job — it’s a family. And when one of us is hurt, all of us feel it.
This fundraiser was about more than raising money. It was about showing these five brave individuals that they are not facing this road alone. It was about reminding their families that this community stands with them, prays with them, and supports them every step of the way.
To everyone who donated, volunteered, cooked, organized, or simply showed up — thank you. Your generosity reflects the very best of who we are.
To our injured firefighters and pastor: we honor your courage, we admire your strength, and we are committed to helping you heal
Together, we are stronger. Together, we will get through this.”

Today we proudly honor our dedicated members on International Firefighters’ Day.

Wearing this patch is more than tradition—it represents courage, sacrifice, and an unwavering commitment to protecting our community. Each call answered, each training completed, and each moment spent supporting one another reflects the strength of our fire company family.

To every member: thank you for your bravery, your selflessness, and your pride in serving. You are the backbone of this department, and we are grateful for everything you do—today and every day.

Stay safe and stay strong. 🔥🚒
