Our mission is to serve and protect the life, property and environment of the residents and visitors of the Towns of Western, Steuben and surrounding communities. The fire department was incorporated in 1945. After being incorporated, the fire department supported two fire stations, one in Westernville, the other in North Western. In 1979 construction began on the new fire station, located on Rt. 46, just north of the hamlet of Westernville. In 1993 the North Western fire station was closed. The fire department is an essential part of the community. Our department covers the Town of Western and a portion of the Town of Steuben. We cover an area of approximately 67 square miles. The fire department is involved in community events, as well as serving in the time of need. Fire Department meetings are held on the first Monday of each month at 7:00 PM. Other Monday nights are reserved for work sessions. The Western Fire Department, in conjunction with New York State, has one of the best fire fighting training programs in the nation. There are a variety of training programs, ranging from support groups, medical technician, search & rescue, water rescue, or fire fighter. Also being offered is a new program for junior firefighters. If you are interested in a challenge, or want to get involved in the community, this could be the place for you! Stop by on Monday night, or call for more information. Last evening we received delivery and training for our new Holmatro High Pressure 27 ton Stack Bags and Omnishore Stabilization Shoring System. We are so thankful for our friends at the Griffin Charitable Foundation for this gift. We would not be able to provide such an advancement in rescue equipment without their donation. These new tools are replacing our old set of airbags that were 46 years old! This equipment also gives us vehicle stabilization capabilities and in the future we hope to add structural and trench capabilities that are an add on to this system. Our community is a safer place because of this gift. We would also like to thank Mitch Goldberg and Howie Simmons our Holmatro Reps at JPB Fire Sales for providing us with a quality product at a great price, thorough training, and great service! Our team will continue to train in house over the next few weeks to master their skills learned last night to be sure we are ready to serve our community when the bell rings. Again thank you all for your support to be the best prepared we can be when it matters most!

Today members participated in the 12th annual CNY Memorial Stair Climb. Our members have had a presence participating at this symbolic event since its inception. Many who participated today were not even born before this tragic day. Yet, they carry on the memories of all of those affected on that tragic day. They are the ones who will carry on the significance of that tragic day in history. Through them we will ensure that none of those there that day and the months that followed are ever forgotten! Well done by all to carry on the remembrance of that day!

Last night members attended the Military/First Responders Appreciation Night at the Holland Patent Football game. The Golden Knights were victorious with a big W! We always try to support our youth as they are our future. Thank you for honoring everyone last night. We must never forget 09.11.01 !!!
