Westerlo Volunteer Fire Company Seeks New Members

Over the course of Wednesday evening and most of Saturday, members participated in FAST (Firefighter Assist and Search Team) training, developing and refining the skills necessary to operate as an effective FAST team.

Participants dedicated many hours to hands on training and practical evolutions, demonstrating a strong commitment to improving their knowledge, proficiency, and teamwork. Their hard work and dedication were evident throughout the training.

Thank you to all of the members who took part and continue to invest in their training to help keep our department moving forward.

Today we’re celebrating all the incredible moms, grandmothers, stepmoms, and mother figures in our community. A special thank you to the mothers who serve alongside us, support us through late nights and missed holidays, and always hold everything together behind the scenes.

Saturday January 17th the members of westerlo fire and some of our neighboring departments came together to celebrate and install our officers for 2026. The 2025 firefighter of the year was Henry Lasher. He had 62 consecutive years of active service to the community and fire company. His wife Linda Lasher accepted his award to a standing ovation.

Wednesday night the members braved a little rain to train on a new topic of vent , enter, isolate,search VEIS. We would like to thank Delmar Fire for allowing us to borrow the window prop they have to simulate taking a window and entering the structure to search for a simulated victim.

The men and women who make up the dedicated membership of the Westerlo Volunteer Fire Company responded to 124 calls to duty during the year of 2025. Along with countless hours spent training and other details assisting the community and surrounding communities. If interested in joining please stop by either fire station on the first or second Wednesdays of the month at 7pm and ask about an application.
