The Board of County Commissioners is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Sara Bertelsen to the position of Public Health Director. Sara brings with her over nine years of health care experience as a registered nurse and health care provider. Ms. Bertelsen is a graduate of Clarkson College in Omaha Nebraska with three consecutive years on the Dean’s List and two-time Daisey award nominee.

Ms. Bertelsen’s vision is “To cultivate a healthy, resilient, and encompassing community where all residents can achieve optimal health and well-being. And for the Public Health Department “To provide comprehensive public health services, promote health equality, and ensure the well-being of our community through prevention, education and collaboration.”

Job Opening:

Ad Valorem Data Collector:
Custer County Assessor’s Office is accepting is seeking applicants for the FLSA non-exempt part-time position (20 hours per week) of Ad Valorem Data Collector. Duties include helping the County Appraiser to discover all types of property within Custer County as well as visiting properties to collect data, enter data into computer systems, and perform basic mathematical calculations.

Applicants must have a valid Colorado driver’s license and a clean motor vehicle report. Some lifting of up to 30 pounds may be required, and applicants must be able to climb stairs and remove record books from tall shelves. In addition, it may be necessary to walk in construction zones and in semi-rugged terrain. Applicants should be self-motivated and able to work with little supervision after an initial training period. Accuracy and the ability to interact with the public are essential. Must be able to pass a drug and alcohol test (at County expense).

Minimum starting wage is $17.00 per hour depending on qualifications. Completed applications and a current resume must be returned by August 29, 2024 at 5:00 p.m.

Mitigation Team Volunteers needed – Free training

Join us on Sept 16-19, 2024 for chainsaw certification training. It is free for volunteers and all equipment will be provided. We are building a wildland fire mitigation team to help those who may not have the abilities to mitigate their property.

The team will be a Custer County mitigation team and will partner with other agencies to accomplish tasks for the homeowners and community. Please email [email protected] or call 719-269-7952 for more information. The training will be held at a local ranch and all snacks and lunch will be provided.

An application and background check is required and can be sent via email. This effort is part of a grant to Custer County to make the community safer by building a team who can thin trees, get rid of slash branches and making the property and forest healthier. Please join us at the Custer County Office of Emergency Management.
