It's a beautiful morning in the gardens, and we find ourselves in a time of transition. Since most of our spring flowers are gone, and our summer flowers are still budding, things might look a little monochromatic, but there are a lot of different shades of green to see! And if you look closely, you might see some interesting pollinators--today we saw a black swallowtail caterpillar, and a narcissus bulb fly. Stop by soon to catch the Joe Pye w**d, purple coneflower, common milkw**d, white wild indigo, and prairie roses at all stages of opening, and the serviceberry starting to fruit!

It's a beautiful morning in the gardens, and while our spring flowers are on their way out, we can see almost all of our summer flowers starting to bud! Stop by to see the last of the columbines and the Eastern bluestar, the height of the spiderwort, pipevine, and foxglove beardtongue, and the very beginnings of milkw**d, rosinw**d, purple coneflower, wild white indigo, and prairie roses--and more to come! (The great black wasps promise to share).

It's a beautiful morning in the gardens, and the plants all enjoyed the long weekend as much as we did (it was finally warm!) Our spiderwort is up for the first time this year (much to the delight of the hoverflies) and spreading everywhere. Also spreading is the wild indigo, which somehow managed to pop up a new plant on the opposite side of the building--check it out right next to the front door! In the same spot by the front door is our meadow anemone, which is flowering more dramatically than I've seen from it in the past--this is also true of our little viburnum bush, next to the pollinator garden. Said pollinator garden was the site of two unexpected pollinator sightings--a mourning cloak butterfly and a nessus sphinx moth. The pictures we got of them were not great quality, but I include them anyway, so you can see our visitors!

It's a beautiful morning in the gardens, and our plants are soaking up the warm weather for as long as it lasts! There are clouds of columbine and geraniums, there are more pipevine 'pipes' than we've ever had before, the prairie smoke is at its height, and the eastern bluestar and wild indigo are really opening up. We even still have a few stems of phlox in bloom! Stop by before the temps plunge overnight to witness this moment of spring in our gardens.

It's a beautiful morning in the gardens, and even more of our prairie plants are making themselves known! Foxglove Beardtongue is budding, Eastern Bluestar and Wild Indigo are opening their first flowers, geraniums and columbine continue to bloom, and Culvers Root and Joe Pye W**d are making beautiful mounds of leaves. We've even got a couple of prairie smoke fluffs! And if you stop by, you'll see the last of the Virginia bluebells and the Jacob's Ladder, with their beautiful purple tones.

It's a beautiful morning in the gardens, and in spite of the temperature rollercoaster we continue to ride, almost all the spring blossoms are up--and some are even already going to seed! If you visit this week you'll see phlox, geraniums, bladdernut, pipevine and golden alexander in full bloom, Virginia bluebells and Jacob's Ladder forming seeds and pods, the first blossoms of columbine and prairie smoke, and buds of wild indigo and our singluar wood anemone. Who knows what will be flowering by the end of the week!
