It's a beautiful morning in the gardens, and we're crossing our fingers that this is the last super-hot day, at least for a little while. In spite of last week's heat-wave, the native plants have all taken one more step towards fall. The obedient plant, cardinal flower, evening primrose and black-eyed Susans are slowly going to seed, while the rosinw**d and blue lobelia aren't quite as far along. The prairie dock is still looking lovely, and the goldenrod and saw-tooth sunflowers are exploding with blossoms (much to the delight of the pollinators!) Meanwhile our few stands of native grasses are suddenly noticeable--they're showing their fall colors, which means they're also going to seed--check out the little bluestem and the prairie dropseed at the northwest corner of the walking path!
