Dryden Street Elementary School welcomed back a special visitor today who continues to make a lasting impact on scholars. Maisy, a certified therapy dog, returned to support literacy in a unique and engaging way.

Scholars once again had the opportunity to read aloud to Maisy, building their confidence, fluency, and love for reading in a relaxed, judgment-free environment. Her calming presence helped scholars feel at ease, turning reading time into something they eagerly look forward to.

The return of Maisy highlights how meaningful connections and creative approaches can strengthen a love for learning across our school community.

On Wednesday evening, the Westbury community gathered once again with intention and a shared sense of purpose.

Parents, staff, administrators, Board of Education members, community leaders, clergy, and local representatives came together for another engaging strategic planning session led by Dr. Lorna Lewis, all focused on strengthening the path forward for our scholars.

The message throughout the evening was clear. A meaningful strategic plan is shaped through collaboration, guided by the voices and lived experiences of those who support our children each day. In Westbury, those voices are not peripheral; they are at the core of the work.

As the district continues its vision toward 2030 and beyond, this effort calls on every member of the Westbury family. From veteran educators to those new to the district, from administrators and teachers to clerical staff, custodians, nurses, security personnel, support staff, and food service professionals, each perspective plays a vital role.

When a community listens with purpose and works together, progress continues to build. Tuesday evening reflected that shared commitment and the collective drive to create a future that meets the needs and aspirations of every scholar.

Westbury High School scholars recently saw their voices come to life when Aramark introduced pork griot to the cafeteria menu. This addition came directly from conversations with scholars, who shared their cultural backgrounds, preferences, and ideas during ongoing feedback sessions.

By listening and responding, Aramark demonstrated a strong commitment to cultural awareness and inclusivity, ensuring that the meals served reflect the district's diverse community. The introduction of pork griot not only provided a delicious new option but also promoted a sense of pride and representation among many scholars.

Moments like these highlight the importance of student voice and partnership, showing how collaboration can lead to more inclusive and thoughtful experiences for all.

The Westbury Union Free School District wishes everyone a happy St. Patrick’s Day! May your day be filled with joy, celebration, and a little bit of Irish luck.

St. Patrick’s Day, celebrated every March 17th, honors Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. What began as a religious observance has grown into a global celebration of Irish heritage and culture. The day is marked by festive parades, music, dancing, wearing green, and symbols like shamrocks, which Saint Patrick used to share his teachings. Beyond the fun, St. Patrick’s Day is a celebration of history, community, and the rich traditions that continue to inspire people around the world.
