Once again winter is set to strike the north east!

The Westbury Fire Department is closely monitoring these conditions of winter storm Hernando. We are assembling in house standby crews so our response is not delayed.

Please consider helping us but clearing your local fire hydrants & avoid travel during this storm.

North Hempstead's 2026 Shed the Meds pharmaceutical drop-off events have been announced, with the first event taking place on Saturday, April 4 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 802 West Shore Road, Port Washington. Shed the Meds events ensure that old medications are secured and disposed of properly. These events simultaneously protect our environment and keep medications out of the hands of those who would use them improperly.

Accepted items include: prescriptions, prescription patches, prescription medications, prescription ointments, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, sample medications, and medications for pets.

Needles, sharps, aerosol cans, thermometers, ointments (liquid or lotion), hydrogen peroxide, inhalers, biohazardous waste, and medication from businesses WILL NOT be accepted.
