Westbrook’s America 250 kickoff was a powerful and memorable evening that brought the community together in celebration of history and civic pride. The program featured Westbrook High School students delivering a stirring reading of Paul Revere, followed by a special appearance from Newtown’s Poet Laureate, who shared her original work, “Revered and Hailed.”

Highlights of the night included the symbolic lighting of two lanterns in the Congregational Church by Westbrook’s American Legion Commander, a live horse from ROL Haven Farms evoking the spirit of the era, performances by the Westbrook Drum Corps, and a tribute to David Bushnell’s innovative “Turtle.”

Despite the chilly weather, the community gathered in strong numbers on the town green, with each moment of the program capturing the audience’s attention and honoring our shared heritage. Sincere thanks to all who helped plan this meaningful event and to everyone who came out to be part of this historic evening in Westbrook.

The event will be aired on Valley Shore Community Television Inc at the beginning of the week (https://www.vsctv.com)

Community Invitation! “Two Lights For Tomorrow”

The Town of Westbrook kicks off their 250th Anniversary Celebrations on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at 7:30 pm on the Town Green.

A Commemoration of Paul Revere’s Ride will take place followed with a special presentation by Newtown’s Poet Laureate, Lauren Clifford.

A commemoration of Paul Revere’s ride will take place with a brief sunset ceremony on the town green, featuring two spotlights shining from the Congregational Church steeple. This “Two Lights for Tomorrow” initiative will be observed in towns and cities across the nation. Residents are encouraged to display two lights—such as candles, LED lanterns, or flashlights—in their windows or on their porches on the evening of April 18 in honor of the nation’s founding. The two lights symbolize freedom, unity, and the ongoing vigilance needed to preserve them.
