The Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife (MassWildlife) is an agency of the Department of Fish and Game, responsible for the conservation—including restoration, protection, and management—of fish and wildlife resources for the benefit and enjoyment of the public. Specifically, MassWildlife is charged with the stewardship of all wild amphibians, reptiles, birds, mammals, and freshwater and diadromous fishes in the state, as well as endangered, threatened, and special concern species, including native wild plants and invertebrates. SAFETY NOTICE TO MOTORISTS: If you see a moose near the road, brake to avoid a collision. Moose breed in September and October and their activity increases during this time, especially in the early morning and evening. Stay safe by observing road signs for moose crossings, slowing down to give yourself more time to react, and reducing other distractions.

Moose on the road are especially hazardous. They can be difficult to see because of their dark color and their long legs and heavy bodies make them more dangerous to motorists when struck. Vehicle collisions with moose or deer should be reported to the Massachusetts Environmental Police at 1-800-632-8075.

REMINDER FOR DEER HUNTERS: Surplus antlerless deer permits for limited zones go on sale this week!
🔸A limited number of permits for zones 1, 3, 4S, 5, 7, 8, 9, and 12 go on sale at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, September 16. These are first-come, first-served and limited to 1 permit per zone per day.
🔸Permits for zones 10, 11, 13, and 14 are available now and have no daily or season purchase limit.

Join us for a walk to explore the surprising world of invasive species on Saturday, September 19 at Herman Covey WMA in Belchertown!

Learn how to identify the spotted lanternfly, tree of heaven, and other invasives while discovering the impacts they have on local ecosystems. Along the way, you'll learn how MassWildlife uses habitat restoration to manage invasive species and restore native habitats.

Participants should be prepared for a ~1.5 mile walk and dress for the weather and walking on uneven ground.
