MBI, Pittsfield Housing Authority & AccessPlus recently marked the completion of updated wiring at Columbia Arms in Pittsfield through the Residential Retrofit Program.

The Go Live event brought together city officials & community partners to recognize how modernized broadband infrastructure can better support residents of public & affordable housing. The project helps expand access to essential online services, including telehealth, remote work & education.

The MA Broadband Institute has launched Connected & Online, a $23M program to boost access to education, workforce training & telehealth statewide.

This initiative will support public device lending programs & on-site device stations across MA, delivering up to 27,000 laptops, tablets & desktops to communities in need. Connected & Online is a critical step in bridging the digital divide & supporting economic opportunity through digital access.

The public comment period is now open for the draft MA Broadband Equity Access and Deployment (BEAD) Final Proposal. Until Wednesday, Sept. 3 at 5:00 p.m., members of the public are invited to review the proposal & submit feedback.

We’re looking to recognize leaders advancing digital access & literacy in MA for the 2025 Digital Ecosystem Awards.

The awards highlight two major categories: Digital Access Champions & Excellence in Community Impact.

Digital Access Champions – Individuals with expertise, sustained commitment to digital access programs, strong leadership & service to communities most impacted by the digital divide.

Excellence in Community Impact – An organization that addresses the digital divide for those most in need, serving as a trusted hub for internet use, device access & digital skills.

One honoree from each category will be recognized at the event in Worcester on Oct. 8.

Congratulations to MBI partner and grantee, MACIR that was named as a finalist in the 2025 Global Economic Prosperity Challenge as part of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Solve Competition.

Selected out of over 3,000 solutions worldwide, MACIR is working to provide inclusive, community-based digital empowerment. Through their ELEVATE platform, public libraries deliver vital tools and services to help bridge the digital divide. Best of luck in your final stages, MACIR.

Modernizing internet for 13K housing units in MA.

The Healey-Driscoll Administration & MBI awarded $31.5M to increase internet access for affordable & public housing residents statewide. The funds were provided to four Internet Service Providers (ISPs) through the Residential Retrofit Program, which expands reliable, high-speed internet service by addressing inadequate wiring & infrastructure through grants to qualified ISPs.

This round of grant funding will modernize internet access in over 13,000 housing units across MA.

MBI has issued a Request for Information to identify vendors & suppliers who provide services in:

- Digital Literacy
- Device Refurbishment & Distribution
- Education, Outreach & Adoption
- Public Spaces Internet Modernization
- Wi-Fi Access

The information gathered will connect MBI program participants with relevant vendors who can support their objectives.
