Have you ever wondered what more you can do to protect your home and family?
Your Westampton Township Emergency Services is proud to partner with the Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition this week during the “2026 NFPA Home Fire Sprinkler Week” to share important safety information with our community.
Each year, fire departments respond to an estimated 340,000 home fires in the United States, causing significant loss of life and property. These incidents account for nearly 30% of all fires nationwide. Cooking is the leading cause, responsible for about half of all home fires. Other top causes include heating equipment (13%), electrical issues (9%), and smoking materials (5%).
Most fatal fires tend to happen late at night or early in the morning. In fact, roughly half of all home fire deaths occur between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM, when most people are sleeping. These statistics are alarming, but they highlight the importance of taking proactive safety measures.
Home fire sprinkler systems provide critical protection for both residents and first responders. They are designed to detect and control fires early—often before they have a chance to grow or spread. Because of modern synthetic furnishings and open floor plans, fires escalate incredibly fast today. You may have as little as two minutes to safely escape a home fire, compared to 10 to 15 minutes just a few decades ago.
The mission of the Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition is to help families take meaningful steps to protect their homes, property, and lives. Below, you’ll find more information about how fire sprinklers work and how you can better safeguard what matters most. 👇
