In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.
National Police Week is a collaborative effort of many organizations dedicated to honoring America’s law enforcement community.
National Police Week 2026 will be observed from May 10th to May 16th a week dedicated to honoring the brave souls of law enforcement, especially those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Throughout this week, we come together to express our gratitude and support for the courageous men and women who serve and protect our communities.
In Washington, D.C., thousands of law enforcement personnel gather to recognize and honor the fallen, as the law enforcement memorial wall grows each year, a poignant reminder of their sacrifices. As names are announced and added to the memorial, we reflect on their legacy. The main memorial service, held on the lawn of the United States Capitol Building on May 15, coincides with Peace Officers Memorial Day.
Among those remembered is Trooper Sean Cullen, whose name stands proudly on the wall. We honor him not only this week but every day, embodying the spirit of resilience and dedication he represented.
