SEMAINE DU PATRIMOINE
Cette semaine, nous célébrons la Semaine du patrimoine en Ontario! Pour l’occasion, le Comité du patrimoine et de la culture de la Municipalité de La Nation vous offre un aperçu de l’histoire de la fromagerie Proulx à St-Bernardin!
La fromagerie Proulx est un site historique d’une grande valeur patrimoniale. La fromagerie Proulx a été construite en 1890, dans la municipalité de Hawkesbury Ouest. Elle a ensuite été déplacée au coin Proulx en 1918 par Alexander McDonald. Elle a ensuite fonctionné jusqu’en 1957, jouant un rôle central dans l’histoire agricole de notre communauté.
En 1989, le Conseil de la municipalité de Caledonia a reconnu sa valeur architecturale et historique en adoptant le règlement numéro 05-1989, conformément à la Partie IV de la Loi sur le patrimoine de l’Ontario (1974). La fromagerie Proulx est aujourd’hui l’une des rares de son époque à avoir été préservée.
Cette année, après de nombreux efforts, le Comité du patrimoine et de la culture aura l’honneur de dévoiler la première plaque officielle de la Fiducie du patrimoine dans notre municipalité, en hommage à la fromagerie Proulx.
La cérémonie de dévoilement aura lieu cet été. Restez à l’affût pour plus de détails au cours des prochains mois!

HERITAGE WEEK
This week, we are celebrating Heritage Week in Ontario! On this occasion, the Heritage and Culture Committee of The Nation Municipality gives you a sneak peek into the history of the Proulx Cheese Factory in St-Bernardin!
The Proulx Cheese Factory is a historic site of great heritage value. It was originally built in 1890 in the Municipality of West Hawkesbury. In 1918, it was relocated to Proulx Corner by Alexander McDonald. The factory operated until 1957, playing a central role in the agricultural history of our community.
In 1989, the Council of the Municipality of Caledonia recognized its architectural and historical significance by passing By-law No. 05-1989, under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act (1974). Today, the Proulx Cheese Factory is one of the few from its era to have been preserved.
This year, after much time and dedication, the Heritage and Culture Committee will have the honor of unveiling the first official Heritage Trust plaque in our municipality, in tribute to the Proulx Cheese Factory.
The unveiling ceremony will take place this summer. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months!
