Trips for Kids Ottawa expanded its afterschool cycling program with a $19,500 Capital grant, purchasing 10 bikes and 20 helmets, welcoming 20 new youth participants.
Serving youth aged 12 to 16, including youth at-risk, on the autistic spectrum, newcomers, or from low-income families, the program offers more than recreation. It builds confidence, fosters inclusion, and promotes physical health, with most participants staying for up to three years.
Demand has surged in recent years, especially among youth new to Canada who are experiencing the joy of biking for the first time. The grant helps meet this need, ensuring no child is excluded due to lack of equipment.
Trips for Kids Ottawa actively removes barriers related to socio-economic status, culture, and ability. With the support of their Capital grant, they’re creating a safe, welcoming space where every child can thrive—on and off the bike.
