💜 September is NICU Awareness Month. 💜

What exactly is a NICU?

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a specialized hospital unit caring for newborn babies who are born too early, are very small, or need extra medical support after birth.

For NICU families, the journey can be filled with uncertainty, long days, tiny milestones, and emotions that are difficult to put into words. But it is also a place of strength, hope, extraordinary medical care, and incredible love.

NICU teams work around the clock to help these tiny babies grow stronger—and families are an important part of that journey. Family-centred care and partnership are an essential part of supporting babies and their parents.

This September, help us spread awareness.
Share this post with your family and friends and help someone learn a little more about the NICU.

💜

To every NICU baby, parent, sibling, grandparent, caregiver, nurse, doctor and member of the neonatal team:

We see you. We honour your journey. We celebrate every tiny milestone. 🌈

This World Breastfeeding Week (August 1–7), the MS NICU PAC wants to send a powerful message of love and support to every family in our NICU. ❤️

For our families, we know that the feeding journey often looks different than we might have imagined.

Whether your baby receives milk through direct breastfeeding, through your amazing pumping efforts, through generous donor milk, or via formula, your commitment is heroic.

Every drop, every feed, and every ounce of effort is a profound expression of your love and a key part of your baby’s care.

We are here to celebrate your unique journey. We honor the unique comfort, nutrition, and powerful medicine that breast milk can provide. We also fiercely celebrate the connection and bond you build with your baby, no matter how they are fed. You are doing an incredible job.

We’d love to hear from you:
What has your feeding journey been like in the NICU? Share a moment of comfort, a victory, or just a simple 'hello' below. Your story matters, and we are listening. 💛

Summertime in the nicu can be different for some families, although not easier or harder. Just different.

If you are in the nicu currently, are you able to take an extra walk outside? Or sit outside for a minute to think?

If you shared some time in the nicu during summer, what advice, would you give to current families in the nicu now to offer words of support?

Please share below.

Happy Father's Day to all the amazing NICU dads out there!

Your dedication and love shine brighter than any monitor!

To the father who understood that supporting the mother is also supporting the baby, to the dad who spent hours beside the bedside, who wanted to show up for every appointment, and who has learned a whole new medical language overnight.

Thank you for your strength!

Have an absolutely wonderful day, dads 💕
