On Sunday, December 9th, 2024, at approximately 12:39 am, West Wildwood Police officers responded to a trespassing and theft complaint at 600 North Drive, wherein two males were alleged to have entered the garage area of the building and removed bicycles from the property. The accused were later located at the Glenwood Avenue Bridge and identified as Luke Hewitt, 45, of Kissimmee, FL, and Shamus Flynn, 30, of Cape May Court House, NJ, both of whom were in possession of the alleged stolen property at the time of the stop.
The subsequent investigation resulted in officers obtaining surveillance footage which captured the accused entering the premises and removing the bicycles from the property. Additionally, officers on scene discovered Hewitt possessed an outstanding arrest warrant totaling $2,000.00 originating from Lower Township Municipal Court. Search incident to arrest revealed Flynn was in possession of a large knife, concealed in his waistband, a resealable plastic baggie containing a crystal-like substance believed to be a Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS), and multiple items suspected to be CDS paraphernalia. Search incident to arrest of Hewitt revealed hand tools concealed on his person and a large knife within the bag he was carrying.
As a result of this investigation, Flynn was charged with Fourth Degree Unlicensed Entry of a Structure or Dwelling, Fourth Degree Receiving Stolen Property, Fourth Degree Theft, Third Degree Possession of suspected M**h Amphetamine, Fourth Degree Unlawful Possession of Weapons and Possession of CDS Paraphernalia, a Disorderly Persons Offense. Hewitt was charged with Fourth Degree Unlicensed Entry of a Structure or Dwelling, Fourth Degree Receiving Stolen Property, Fourth Degree Theft, Second Degree Certain Persons not to have Weapons and Possession of Burglars Tools, a Disorderly Persons Offense.
Flynn and Hewitt are currently incarcerated in the Cape May County Correctional Center in accordance with the Attorney General Guidelines, promulgated in connection with the Criminal Justice Bail Reform Policies and Directives. The defendants were charged after a finding of probable cause and are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
