🇺🇸 NEVER FORGET — 9/11/01

Today, we pause to remember the lives taken too soon, the heroes who ran toward danger, and the countless families and communities forever changed by September 11, 2001.

Twenty-five years later, their sacrifice, courage, and memory remain with us.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget. 🇺🇸

🏆 WEST WARWICK POLICE DEPARTMENT RECEIVES THIRD REACCREDITATION AWARD 🏆

This afternoon, the West Warwick Police Department was honored to receive our third reaccreditation award from the Rhode Island Police Accreditation Commission (RIPAC).

This important recognition represents much more than a certificate or an award. It reflects our department’s ongoing commitment to professionalism, accountability, excellence, and the use of model policies and best practices as we serve and protect the residents of the Town of West Warwick.

Accreditation is an ongoing process that requires dedication, attention to detail, and a commitment to continually evaluating and improving the way we do our jobs. We are extremely proud that our department continues to meet these high standards and remain committed to providing the very best service possible to our community.

We would especially like to recognize our Accreditation Manager, Detective Lieutenant Tom Nye, for his outstanding work in helping the department achieve this accomplishment. Lieutenant Nye's exceptional work ethic, attention to detail, persistence, and unwavering commitment to doing things the right way have been instrumental in maintaining our accreditation. The countless hours he dedicates to reviewing policies, ensuring compliance, preparing documentation, and keeping the accreditation process moving forward are a tremendous asset to this department.

This achievement is a reflection of the hard work of every member of the West Warwick Police Department who works each day to uphold the standards expected of a professional law enforcement agency.

We are proud of this accomplishment, grateful to our officers and staff for their continued dedication, and honored to serve the Town of West Warwick.

Three-time reaccredited — and continuing to strive for excellence. 💙

🐾 DOG LICENSES & RESPONSIBLE PET OWNERSHIP — A REMINDER FOR WEST WARWICK PET OWNERS 🐾

The West Warwick Police Department and West Warwick Animal Shelter/Animal Control Division would like to remind residents of several important requirements and responsibilities that come with owning a dog in the Town of West Warwick.

🐶 DOG LICENSES

All dogs over six months of age kept in the Town of West Warwick are required to be licensed and registered.

📍 How to Get a Dog License

Dog licenses are available through the West Warwick Town Clerk’s Office at Town Hall.

A current rabies vaccination certificate showing the expiration date is required. Rabies tags alone are not accepted as proof of vaccination.

💰 License Fees
• $8.00 — Spayed or neutered dogs
• $16.00 — Unspayed or unneutered dogs

📬 Licenses by Mail

You may also obtain your dog's license by mail. Please include:

• Your name, address, and phone number
• Your dog's name, breed, coat color, and gender
• A copy of the dog's current rabies certificate
• A check for $8.00 or $16.00, payable to the Town of West Warwick
• A self-addressed, stamped envelope

Mail all required items to:

West Warwick Town Hall
1170 Main Street
West Warwick, RI 02893

⚠️ All required information and documents must be included for the license to be properly issued.

🦮 PROPERLY CONTAINED & CONTROLLED DOGS

We also want to remind all dog owners that dogs must be properly contained or controlled at all times.

When a dog is not under the direct physical control of its owner or handler, it must be appropriately contained on the owner's property so that it cannot leave the property. Depending on the circumstances, this may include a leash, tether, tie-out, secure fence, or other appropriate means of containment.

This is particularly important because the West Warwick Police Department and Animal Control Division have recently seen a significant increase in incidents involving dogs leaving their properties and physically attacking other animals.

These incidents can result in serious injuries to other pets and animals and can create dangerous situations for their owners and members of the public who attempt to intervene.

Please do not assume that your dog will stay in the yard, will not chase another animal, or will return when called. Even a normally friendly or well-behaved dog can react unpredictably when it encounters another animal.

Taking the proper precautions to secure your dog can help prevent an attack before it happens.

🏷️ DON'T FORGET THE LICENSE TAG!

Once licensed, the owner is issued a license certificate and metallic license tag. The license tag must be attached to the dog's collar, and the dog is required to wear its collar and tag.

💉 RABIES VACCINATION REQUIRED

Dogs must be properly vaccinated against rabies in accordance with state and local requirements. A current rabies vaccination certificate must be presented before a dog license can be issued.

Failure to license a dog or comply with applicable requirements may result in fines and additional penalties under the Town of West Warwick Ordinances.

🐾 A licensed, vaccinated, and properly contained dog is a safer dog!

We ask all West Warwick dog owners to take a moment to make sure their pets are properly licensed, vaccinated, and securely contained.

Your actions can help prevent an animal from being injured — and can help protect you, your neighbors, and your own pet.

Thank you for being responsible pet owners and helping keep West Warwick safe for people and pets! ❤️🐶

🐾💙 NATIONAL POLICE K-9 DAY 💙🐾

Today, the West Warwick Police Department is proud to recognize National Police K-9 Day by celebrating a very special member of our department — K-9 Mouse! 🐕‍🦺

Mouse holds a special place in the history of the West Warwick Police Department as our first-ever Compassion/Therapy K-9.

But perhaps what makes her story most special is where it began.

Mouse was once a stray, malnourished and ill, rescued from the streets of West Warwick. Today, she has gone from needing someone to help her to becoming the one who helps others. ❤️

Mouse's role may be different from that of a traditional police K-9, but her impact is just as important. As a Compassion/Therapy K-9, she helps bring comfort, calm, and a little bit of happiness to people during some of their most difficult moments. Whether she's supporting members of our department, connecting with victims and families, or simply greeting someone who needs a friendly face and a wagging tail, Mouse has a special way of making people feel better.

Her journey is a wonderful reminder that sometimes the dogs who need us the most can go on to become the ones who give the most back.

From the streets of West Warwick to the halls of the West Warwick Police Department, Mouse has truly found her purpose — and her family. 🐾💙

Please join us in celebrating K-9 Mouse today and thanking her for all the comfort, compassion, and unconditional love she brings to our community.

Happy National Police K-9 Day, Mouse! We are lucky to have you. 🐕‍🦺❤️

💜 International Overdose Awareness Day – September 1st 💜

Tomorrow, September 1st, our West Warwick community will come together to remember those we have lost to overdose, support those impacted by the overdose epidemic, and remind one another that no one has to face this alone.

The West Warwick Police Department is proud to share information about two community events taking place throughout the day:

📍 Health Equity Zone West Warwick Open House
🕛 12:00–4:00 PM
📌 1229 Main Street, West Warwick
Stop by for refreshments, naloxone (Narcan), and valuable community resources.

🕯️ Remembrance Ceremony & Vigil
🕕 6:00–8:00 PM
📌 Arctic Gazebo
Hosted by Westbay Community Action, this evening will provide an opportunity to remember loved ones, connect with our community, and support one another. Refreshments, complimentary T-shirts, and community resources will be available.

International Overdose Awareness Day is a time to remember, educate, and take action. Whether you have personally been affected by overdose or simply want to stand with your neighbors, we encourage you to attend and show your support.

💜 Together, we remember. Together, we support. Together, we can make a difference.

Please share this information with your friends, family, and neighbors so that everyone in our community has the opportunity to participate.
