The West Warwick Senior Center serves as the community focal point for recreation, education classes, and daily congregate meals, home delivered meals, intergenerational programs, senior outreach and early intervention, support programs, wellness initiatives, senior transportation, volunteer opportunities and socialization for Seniors and Disabled adults. lso serves as the Town's Department of Human Services and offers a range of activities for our Town's elderly and non elderly. Some of these services include but are not limited to Salvation Army local unit for clothing and furniture. Good Neighbor Fund for emergency utility assistance, rental and prescription assistance, heating assistance applications, food stamp (SNAP) applications, health clinic, emergency food, and emergency temporary shelter is provided. The Center also distributes food commodities to seniors, disabled and low income families each month. The Center with the help of volunteers from "Helping Hands" has initiated a "Free Tuesday Evening Meal" for its seniors and financially struggling families. The center is handicapped accessible and is frequently used by various town, non-profits and organizations. Some examples are Project Friends, Vantage Point Intervention Program, Arctic Village Association, Pawtuxet Valley Historical Society, and St. Vincent De Paul Society. The West Warwick Senior Center is the proud sponsor agency of the "Foster Grandparent Program" in 1992. Since that time the program has provided approximately 70,000 hours of service per year to many schools, nurseries and child care agencies throughout Rhode Island, with a major concentration in the Town of West Warwick. As a sponsor organization, we supervise the staff and provide support services for that program.
