NOT RUNNING FOR RE-ELECTION When I ran for the Granite School Board 12 years ago, I did so to have a parent voice on the board. At the time, nobody else on the school board had kids in the system!
Since then, I’ve enjoyed fighting for what is best for kids. I’ve cheered as graduation rates have steadily increased this past decade and brought teacher wages up to a competitive level. In my second term, it was an honor to serve as board president for four years, where we met the challenges of guiding our district through the COVID pandemic and the change of superintendents.
I’ve been able to hand diplomas to our children Jessica, Michael, John, and—this May—to Grace. Seeing all our kids graduate and move on remind me that soon I will no longer have any kids in the system, and so it is appropriate that I move on, too! I’m grateful for other candidates who have stepped up to run and am confident that the voters of my precinct will choose other leaders in the future to continue our fight for kids.
I appreciate the board members I have served with, Superintendents Martin Bates, Rich Nye, and Ben Horsley, district employees, admin, and teachers, the support of neighbors and friends, and, of course, my supportive family. I look forward to completing the remainder of my third term this year, and pledge to fight for kids until the end!
