Deputies from the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office were there to demonstrate drones and the county’s new Hi-Lo evacuation sirens. These are important tools to help protect our community during emergencies.

In observance of Memorial Day our administrative offices will be closed Monday, May 25th. All essential and emergency personnel will continue to operate as normal. Our Office will resume standard operations on Tuesday, May 26th.

Thanks to our partners at Pillows for Prisoners the female inmates were gifted a pillow today. The simple act not only brought a sense of joy and comfort but, most importantly, instilled a sense of hope in these women. Learn more about the program at pillowsforprisoners.org

The Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is aware of an incident involving a candidate running for Salt Lake County Sheriff that occurred on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at the Rose Park Community Street Festival.

The candidate involved in this incident is not employed or associated with the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Approximately 63% of individuals in the Salt Lake County Jail are unemployed. On Tuesday, the Salt Lake County Council approved a fee schedule to launch the Fresh Start Cafe at the Metro Jail—a new vocational training program focused on building hands-on job skills and real-world experience. By helping individuals develop skills they can use after release, programs like this play an important role in reducing recidivism and supporting long-term success.
