Whetstone For West Valley West Valley District 3 City Councilman | Facing Community Challenges With Positive Solutions

My name is Will Whetstone, I’ve been a resident of West Valley City for the last 30 years. In January of 2022 I was selected by the City Council to serve as Councilmember of District 3. Prior to my appointment to City Council, I served on the West Valley Board of Adjustments from 2013 to 2021. My wife and I have lived in West Valley City for 30 years and we have raised our four daughters here. I a

m currently serving, and have served for the last 17 years in the Utah Air National Guard. My time in the military has taught me how to be reliable, consistent, and meticulous about planning. In addition to my military service, I have also served on seven nonprofit boards and committees. Serving with these nonprofits has broadened my perspective and introduced me to unique ways to accomplish community development. I’m passionate about our West Valley Community and would like your support as I seek re-election to the council.

West Valley City is planning for the future, and we want to hear from YOU.

Tomorrow night, the City is hosting an interactive Community Visioning Workshop where residents can share ideas, discuss priorities with neighbors, and even help sketch out what they want our community to look like in the years ahead.

This is your opportunity to have a voice in the future of West Valley City — from parks and neighborhoods to transportation, businesses, and community spaces.

I’d love to see a strong turnout and hear your ideas!

Today I had the opportunity to spend time with the West Valley City Fire Department and experience a small part of what their recruits go through during training.

It was challenging, humbling, and exhausting—but more than anything, it gave me an even greater appreciation for the men and women who serve our community every day. Their professionalism, teamwork, and commitment to protecting West Valley City is truly impressive.

Thank you to the department for letting me join in and for all you do to keep our city safe. I’ll leave the real firefighting to the professionals… for now.

Proud of these residents and the commitment they’ve shown to strengthening our community!

Tonight we celebrated the graduation of the West Valley City Neighborhood Leadership Academy and had the honor of presenting this incredible group to City Council.

Over the past nine weeks these leaders showed up, leaned in and committed to learning how to better serve their neighborhoods and our city.

To our Leadership Academy graduates: thank you for your time, your ideas and your commitment to community. West Valley City is stronger because of you.

A special thank you to My Hometown and Cities Strong for your support in making this program possible.

We’re proud of this group and excited to see the impact they’ll continue to make.

I’ve seen the recent story about the unfinished park near 3100 S and 6130 W—and I understand the frustration from residents who have been waiting far too long.

This is something I’ve raised with both past and current city leadership, and I agree—it needs to be a priority.

As someone who also lives in this neighborhood, I care deeply about making sure our community has the amenities that were promised. As we continue planning and investing in parks across West Valley City, we also need to follow through on commitments that were made years ago.

I’ll be working with staff to better understand the timeline and what it will take to move this forward, and I’ll share updates as we have them.

If you live nearby and have questions, ideas, or suggestions, I’d welcome you to reach out.

One West Valley City resident says he has been waiting nearly 26 years for a park to be built in his neighborhood.

Resident Art Fracchia said the empty lot at the corner of 3100 South 6130 West was donated by a home builder for a community park when he first moved into the neighborhood.

But Fracchia says not much has changed since then.
