This past Friday, the Police and Fire Departments teamed up for another fun-filled Bingo with Badges. The event brought together residents of all ages for an evening of laughter, friendly competition, and meaningful conversations with first responders.

Events like these provide a wonderful opportunity to connect with the community outside of emergency situations and strengthen the relationships that make West U such a special place. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the evening such a success. We enjoyed spending time with you and look forward to seeing you again at future community events!

Residents of West U and the surrounding area can expect periods of rain, at times heavy, throughout the next few days. If you have to be out on the road, take extra precautions. Even a small amount of water on the roadway can lead to hydroplaning, and heavier downpours may reduce visibility.

If you must travel:
• Slow down and increase your following distance
• Turn on your headlights
• Allow yourself extra time to reach your destination
• Watch for standing water and avoid low water crossings
• If you encounter a flooded roadway, do not attempt to cross. Turn around, don’t drown.

Consider postponing unnecessary trips when possible, and continue to monitor local weather conditions. Stay safe, West U!

West University Place officers were dispatched to a delayed report of forgery at a local bank. Through the initial inves...

West University Place officers were dispatched to a delayed report of forgery at a local bank. Through the initial investigation, officers learned that a suspect had successfully cashed multiple fraudulent cash bonds, resulting in a loss of more than $31,000.

As the investigation progressed, detectives identified the suspect as Christopher Johnson and developed evidence linking him to the offense. The case was presented to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, which accepted a charge of Forgery against Johnson.

Further investigation revealed that Johnson was no stranger to law enforcement. He has a history of fraud-related offenses, was on probation for similar crimes at the time of the offense and had outstanding warrants for Fraud.

Working in partnership with the Houston Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety, the West University Place Police Department participated in a coordinated warrant operation to locate and arrest Johnson. The operation was successful, and Johnson is now in custody.

This case highlights the value of thorough investigative work and strong partnerships between law enforcement agencies in holding repeat offenders accountable.

As summer break begins for many students, the West U Police Department reminds drivers to stay alert for children who may be playing or riding bicycles in the city, streets, and near parks.

-Slow down and remain attentive while driving
-Be especially cautious in residential areas and near parks
-Expect the unexpected; children may cross streets unexpectedly or enter roadways suddenly while playing or riding
-Always check carefully for children when backing out of driveways or parking spaces
