Help keep our community clean and our local water sources safe! The Fayette County Solid Waste Management Commission is hosting a free Household Hazardous Waste Collection event for all Fayette County residents.

This is a great opportunity to safely dispose of everyday household items such as cleaners, solvents, oil-based paints (no latex), herbicides, pesticides, and more. All collected materials will be safely recycled, used for energy, or disposed of properly.

⏰ Time: 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM
📍 Location: Fayette County Transfer Station, 10275 Kornhill Rd, Fayette, IA 52142

Please note: This collection is designed specifically for residential household items. While we gladly welcome all our residents—including our local farming families and business owners!—we are unable to accept agricultural, commercial, or non-profit waste at this event.

A new welcome awaits trail users in West Union! 🚴🥾

The City of West Union is excited to announce the installation of our new Gateway to Recreation Trail kiosk, creating an official trailhead and welcoming visitors to explore!

The kiosk features a trail map, local attractions, parks, recreation opportunities, and community information to help residents and visitors make the most of their time in West Union. Whether you're heading out for a bike ride, a walk, or an adventure through northeast Iowa, this new trailhead is the perfect place to begin your journey.

A special thank you to Black Hills Energy for helping make this project possible through their generous financial support. We are grateful for their investment in projects that strengthen our communities and encourage recreation, tourism, and economic development. This project truly reflects what can be accomplished through partnership. Thank you to everyone who played a role in bringing this vision to life, including Echo Valley Metalworks and Northeast Iowa RC&D for their outstanding design and fabrication work, City staff for their installation expertise, as well as all of the organizations and individuals who helped make the Gateway to Recreation Trail a reality.

Together, we've created a welcoming destination that will serve residents and visitors for years to come. Be sure to stop by, check out the new kiosk, and explore the trail!

🌿 Friendly Reminder, West Union Residents! 🌿

As we enjoy the warmer weather and keep our lawns looking pristine, please remember not to blow grass clippings into the street!

While it might seem like a quick cleanup method, blowing yard waste into the roadway creates slippery, dangerous hazards for motorcyclists and bicyclists, and it can clog our local storm drains.

Let's work together to keep West Union safe, clean, and beautiful for everyone. Mulch those clippings, compost them, or bag them up, but please keep them out of the roadways! 🚜🏡

There is a large fire causing a lot of smoke in Postville, IA. The smoke is going towards Fayette County and will potentially cause some visibility issues mainly in the Clermont area.

🚨 SMOKE ADVISORY FOR FAYETTE COUNTY 🚨

A large plume of smoke is moving toward Fayette County and may reduce visibility while causing a decline in air quality today.

⚠️ If smoke becomes noticeable:

* Limit prolonged outdoor activity, especially if you have asthma, COPD, heart disease, or other respiratory conditions.
* Keep windows and doors closed if smoke is heavy.
* If driving, slow down if visibility is reduced.
* Check on older adults, young children, and others who may be more sensitive to smoke.

The City of West Union Yard Waste Site will now be open 24/7 starting tomorrow, July 21, 2026. This service is provided exclusively for West Union residents, and there is currently no fee to drop off accepted materials.

♻️ Accepted Items: Yard waste and limbs 4 inches in diameter and under.
🚫 Not Accepted: Trash, rocks or concrete, flower pots, or whole trees.

In this vital role, you will provide leadership in developing short- and long-range plans, respond to public and City Council inquiries, and participate in economic development activities for our community. You will also work closely with city departments, engineers, and consultants to oversee projects and keep our city moving forward.

→ Salary: $60,000 to $90,000 (Depending on Qualifications)

Qualifications: We prefer applicants with 3-5 years of municipal City Government experience and a minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience.
