Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Hampden County is a volunteer organization which provides advocates for abused and neglected children in Springfield and Holyoke, Massachusetts. CASA is central to fulfilling society's most fundamental obligation by making sure a qualified, compassionate adult will fight for and protect a child's right to be safe, to be treated with dignity and respect, and to learn and grow in the security of a loving family.

CHD’s Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Hampden County is seeking new volunteers to serve as advocates for children in need in the community. There will be an in-person information session on March 9, noon-1:00 p.m., at the Holyoke Public Library.

There is also an in-person info session in Ludlow on March 7, noon-1:00 p.m., at the Hubbard Memorial Library, and online virtual info sessions on March 8 and 15. Read more at chd.org/casa.

The courtroom can be a scary, confusing place for a child. That’s where CHD’s Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Program of Hampden County comes in, making a life-changing difference by advocating for local children being placed in foster care or searching for permanent homes.

CASA is seeking new volunteers and are hosting virtual information sessions every Wednesday in February to help prospective volunteers learn more about the role in advance of the program’s next round of training in April. CHD’s Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Hampden County has an information table at the Springfield Thunderbirds game tonight! If you’re at the MassMutual Center, take a few minutes to visit and learn how these volunteers promote children’s best interest in court.

CASA volunteers advocate to ensure a safe, permanent home for children, many of whom have been removed from their homes and are in foster care because of abuse or neglect.

CHD in the News: George Costa was profiled in The Ludlow Register newspaper about his volunteer work for CHD’s Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Hampden County, who are the eyes and ears of the court to ensure a safe, permanent home for children. Many of the kids they serve have been removed from their homes due to abuse, neglect, or abandonment.

Jennifer Dohrmann is a new volunteer in CHD’s Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Program of Hampden County, which trains volunteers to advocate for abused and neglected children in the court system.

Dohrmann, pictured with First Justice David Paradis at the CASA swearing-in ceremony on November 18 in Springfield Juvenile Court, is a parent and an emergency medicine physician, currently serving as the assistant medical director for the Department of Emergency Medicine at Baystate Franklin Medical Center. Her professional experience includes research at McLean Hospital’s Drug and Alcohol Abuse Research Center and teaching students with special needs at the New England Center for Children. She also volunteers as a medical advocate for new arrivals in our country and helps parents from Central America apply to bring their children to the US.

CASA is seeking another round new volunteers, and is hosting virtual information sessions this to help prospective volunteers learn more about the role in advance of the program’s next round of training in the spring.
