State officials are warning of a viral property tax scam targeting seniors. An AI‑generated video falsely claims Congress created a program to freeze or reduce senior property taxes and directs viewers to contact their county assessor for a “Senior Homeowner Tax Review Request” or “IRS Form 1098‑SR.” Neither exists.
Never share personal or financial information in response to unsolicited calls, texts, emails, or online links.

Hydrant Flushing Coming Up in West Salem

Our Public Works crew will be flushing water mains and fire hydrants during the week of September 14, between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. This routine maintenance helps keep our water system operating at its best.

If all goes as planned, crews expect to complete the work on September 14 and 15. Please see the attached maps showing the areas scheduled for Day 1 and Day 2.

Residents may notice brief drops in water pressure or temporary water discoloration during flushing. If your water appears cloudy or discolored, simply run cold water for a few minutes and it should clear up. The water remains safe to drink.

The Village of West Salem is seeking a full-time, friendly, organized Administrative Assistant to join our team.

This position supports Village Administration and Public Works with customer service, clerical work, utility billing assistance, permits, records, and general office operations.

An ideal candidate enjoys working with the public; is detail-oriented and comfortable with computers; can stay organized in a busy office; and communicate clearly and professionally.

Starting wage is between $21 and $25 per hour, depending upon qualifications and experience and includes excellent benefits.
