Getting my sleep earlier in the week since there’s absolutely not time for that kind of thing this weekend. Looking forward to being out and about in our community with all of you during all of these incredible events!

I did not know there would be a whole photo shoot after yesterday’s South Metro Fire board meeting, so please excuse me casualness.

Last night’s post-board meeting ceremony gave us the opportunity to give Chief Mike Nelson the oath of office and his new badge as he takes over from our retiring chief, Mark Juelfs. I’m excited to see what lies ahead for the department because I know we’re in good hands with Chief Nelson.

Chief Juelfs will definitely be missed as he winds down his service with us. I’ve always appreciated his steady leadership and willingness to make sure board members have the best understanding possible for the work that goes on behind the scenes. I’ve learned a great deal from him, and he never once made fun of me for asking how similar things were in real life compared to a dumb firefighter drama I’d been watching. (Obvious newsflash: they’re not!)

Proud board member this morning, both as I reflect on my past seven years on the board and the potential of what lies ahead.

Per the usual, I forgot to take advantage of a photo op when filing for city council one more time. But pics or it didn’t happen and all, so this is what you get!

Serving as your City Councilmember for West St. Paul’s Ward 3 since 2019 has been a true honor, and I’d be grateful to keep working alongside all of you for another four years.

We have loved May Day a million times more ever since moving to West St. Paul and Moreland Arts and Health Sciences Magnet School is the absolute reason why.

Happy May Day, Monarchs! ❤️🦋

Being able to be a part of the South Metro Fire Board for the past seven years and work directly with Chief Juelfs has been one of the highlights of my time on city council. His focus on the wellbeing of our firefighters and the importance of showing up for our community have been easy to support as a board member and welcome to see as a resident.

Chief, you’ve definitely earned this retirement and I know you’re leaving our community in incredible hands. Thank you all you’ve done and bringing us all along for the ride. Still leaving you in my phone as Chief, though!

Very much appreciate this really quick breakdown from Joshua Lee, Lakeville City Council Member, on zoning and what weight the city council has on "choosing" which businesses come into our community and where they go. Big thanks to Majority in the Middle for orchestrating a Local Government 101 series in an attempt to help residents better understand what local elected officials do, how local government works, and why it matters.

What's something you've always been curious about? I'd be open to submitting a video to be included if it'd help anyone understand why we do the things we do!

Get text and email alerts once we get to the snow emergency portion of this pending snowstorm!

Our plow team is absolutely the best in the biz, and it makes their jobs so much easier if you get your vehicles off the street when the plows are out and about.

Snow forecasted this weekend, don’t get caught off guard! Sign up for text or email alerts to know the moment a Snow Emergency is declared: https://buff.ly/3TmHft8

How to prepare: Move your car into a driveway or cleared side street so plows can clear roads faster. Vehicles left on Snow Emergency routes may be towed.

During a Snow Emergency:
- Parking enforcement begins at 2am
- Snow Emergencies last 72 hours

Snow Emergency Routes: No parking after 2am until fully plowed (towed if necessary) on: Annapolis, Bernard, Butler, Charlton, Delaware, Dodd, Emerson, Marie, Mendota, Moreland, Oakdale, Robert, Smith, Stryker, Thompson, Wentworth.

All other streets & alleys: No parking 8am, until plowed or 8pm (whichever comes first).

The League of Minnesota Cities City Day on the Hill took place earlier this week, and your City of West St. Paul contingent featured in these pictures didn’t waste anytime in connecting with everyone that represents us. Our mission was to make sure they know how important the future park at 150 Thompson is to our community and how bonding dollars would make a deep impact on making it come to fruition.

Senator Sandy Pappas popped out of a hearing to chat, and we waited for State Representative Mary Frances Clardy to finish presenting a bill on bike safety at stoplights and met with her. State Representative María Isa Pérez-Vega was holding court in the cafeteria meeting with group after group of constituents and we got to dive deeper into community support. Finally, we got a few minutes to rest (and eat all the candy…) in Senator Matt Klein, M.D.’s office while we waited for the Senate to vote in a statewide eviction moratorium before we spent some time with him. They were all incredibly generous with their time and we are lucky to have them!

I also got the chance to meet the City of Saint Paul - Government’s Mayor Kaohly Her, who got the pleasure of explaining West St. Paul isn’t actually west of Saint Paul to everyone in attendance before I did.

There was also the governor, a panel of senators and representatives moderated by the Citizens League, a state budget update, and the chance to connect with people from a ton of other cities.

It was a productive and fun day!

10/10. No notes. 💯

(📷 stolen from everyone… sorry!)

Need breakfast and the opportunity to be in community with some great folks? Come have some pancakes for a good cause on Sunday.

Everything is a lot right now, we get it. But here's something you can do that might just fill you up. On Sunday morning from 9 to noon, Two Rivers High School is hosting their annual Songcake Breakfast—all-you-can-eat pancakes to support the music department. Give the kids some normal right now. And it's not normal, so being together in community is maybe the best thing you can do.
