Garlough Environmental Magnet School Garlough offers a rigorous environmental studies curriculum emphasizing science. At GEMS, environmental learning is at the core of everything we do.

Through nature-based experiences, we support and enhance children's intellectual, social, emotional and physical development. Students explore nature in Garlough Woods and at Dodge Nature Center as they gain a sense of wonder, respect, and care for the natural world. When interacting with the community through Facebook, the district seeks to maintain a safe, respectful and supportive environment. Happy Monday! We are excited to be together for our first 5-day week of school.

Here is a look at the week’s schedule, which includes the first PIE (Partners in Education) Night tomorrow for families to come and enjoy some activities together at school 5:00-6:30. Please rsvp via the flyer that came in your backpack or a note to your child’s teacher so we have enough dinner for all.

We also have the first PTO meeting of the year tomorrow night from 6:30-8. We need parent volunteers to help plan events and support our teachers in making this a wonderful school! Please join us. Free childcare in the gym. Meeting in the library.

Today, students in grades 1-4 learned expectations for lunchtime, recess, hallways and classrooms. It was wonderful to see such eager listening from our students!

All grades enjoyed their first specialists rotation today, spending time in iNature, art, physical education, or music.

Some of our Garlough pets returned to school yesterday. Thanks for taking care of them, Garlough families who volunteered!

Here is one final photo update from the first day of kindergarten. Classes are learning hallway and bathroom expectations, and they’ve already learned recess and lunchroom basics. Even simple things like how to sit on the rug for story time and how to work in small groups at tables - these are all big learning moments for kindergarteners!

We know your little ones will be tired at the end of the day, so hopefully this gives you some information about their day if they are too exhausted to tell you about it. :)

It’s a great first day of kindergarten at Garlough!

Families, rest assured there were no tears happening in any kindergarten classrooms when these photos were taken mid- morning. :) Your students are making friends, learning the school day routine, and receiving lots of kindness and support from many extra school staff in each classroom.

We are so proud of our 4th grade leaders who came to school a day early to help our newest students!!

💛 So Happy to Be Together Again! 💛

Our Garlough Meet & Greet was filled with smiles, hugs, excitement, and so much joy! We missed our students and families over the summer, and it was wonderful to see everyone back together again. ☀️🌱

There’s such a joyful anticipation in the air as we begin a new school year — new classrooms, new friendships, new adventures, and so much learning ahead!

Thank you to our teachers, staff, and family volunteers who are working hard to prepare classrooms, curriculum, paperwork, and school supplies for next week!
