This afternoon, West Sacramento Police officers responded to two significant incidents impacting our community.

Southport Parkway DUI Arrest: Officers responded to a single-vehicle collision on Southport Parkway near Ramco after a driver was unable to negotiate a curve in the roadway and struck the center median landscaping causing the vehicle to overturn. The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was not injured. Following an investigation and field sobriety tests, the driver was arrested and booked into Yolo County Jail on DUI-related charges.

The roadway has reopened. We thank the community for their patience and remind everyone to drive safely and responsibly.

Evergreen Circle Shooting Investigation: At approximately 1:50 p.m., officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 3400 block of Evergreen Circle. During the incident, a shot was fired from an adjacent apartment and a minor child was struck by gunfire and transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers quickly located and arrested the suspect. At this time, no additional suspects are believed to be outstanding, and the scene has been secured. Detectives remain on scene as the investigation continues.

We are grateful for the swift response and professionalism of our officers and detectives as they worked to bring these incidents to a safe resolution. As always, thank you to our community for your patience, cooperation, and support!

Today, we honor and remember Officer James McKnight on the anniversary of his line-of-duty death.
On June 15, 1990, Officer McKnight was fatally wounded while serving a search warrant as a member of the Yolo County Narcotics Enforcement Team. Despite the dangers he faced, he answered the call with courage, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to protecting others.
Officer McKnight had served with the West Sacramento Police Department since the City’s incorporation in 1987. Prior to joining WSPD, he served with the Yolo County Sheriff’s Department, the Woodland Police Department, and a police department in Hawaii. A dedicated public servant, he had recently graduated from McGeorge School of Law and looked forward to expanding his service through his legal education.
Those who knew Jim remember him as dependable, hardworking, and deeply respected by his fellow officers. His legacy of service and sacrifice continues to inspire generations of law enforcement professionals and community members alike.
In 1996, the West Sacramento Police Department dedicated its police facility in Officer McKnight’s memory, ensuring that his sacrifice would never be forgotten. And just this year, a new memorial was installed on site at the department so all members of the department can honor and pay reverence to the sacrifice Officer McKnight made for our community.
Today, we honor Officer McKnight’s life, service, and ultimate sacrifice. We remember his dedication to this community, and we keep his family, friends, and fellow officers in our thoughts.

Last week’s vandalism at Bad Bakers was upsetting for many in our community. We are pleased to share that, with the assistance of community members, West Sacramento Police have identified, located, and arrested the suspect responsible.
Incidents like this can be jarring, especially when they impact a new local business working hard to become part of our community. What stood out most in the days that followed was the overwhelming support shown for Bad Bakers and the willingness of residents to come forward with information that helped move this investigation forward.
This case is a reminder that West Sacramento is stronger when we work together. Thank you to everyone who supported the business, shared information, and helped us bring this case to a successful resolution.

Today, we were honored to join our West Sac community in supporting another impactful event organized by Ricky Brazil to raise awareness about the dangers of fentanyl and the devastating impact it continues to have on families throughout our community.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to all families who have lost loved ones or been affected by fentanyl. Their stories serve as a powerful reminder of why education, awareness, and prevention matter.
This is an important opportunity to have conversations with your children, stay informed, and learn the warning signs of fentanyl use and exposure.

Over the past several months, law enforcement agencies across Yolo County, including the West Sac PD Special Investigations Unit, have worked together to disrupt the distribution of illegal narcotics in our communities.
Yesterday, detectives from the West Sacramento Police Department and the Yolo County Sheriff's Office conducted multiple enforcement operations within West Sacramento.
During a search warrant service on Jefferson Boulevard, investigators seized approximately ¾ kilogram of co***ne, a loaded firearm, and cash believed to be connected to narcotics sales.
As part of a separate investigation into an illegal ma*****na dispensary, detectives served search warrants in West Sacramento and Fair Oaks, resulting in the seizure of 21 pounds of dried flower cannabis, 93 pounds of concentrated cannabis, and 1,000 grams of concentrated cannabis edibles containing THC. These seizure alone has a conservative street value of $1.3 million dollars. Investigators also seized approximately $172,300 in U.S. currency.
These operations are the result of ongoing collaboration between local law enforcement agencies working to reduce the impact of illegal narcotics and improve public safety throughout our region.
