Planning your own fireworks show this Independence Day? 🎆

While it might be exciting, personal fireworks can also be wasteful. This Fourth of July, consider watching a public fireworks show to reduce your impact on the environment 🌎 and your wallet 💵.

✨ If you do use your own fireworks, make sure to soak them in a bucket of water overnight before placing them in the trash 🗑️ — never the recycling or organics bin! Then, pour the water onto grass or other vegetation, not down the storm drain.

Let’s celebrate safely and sustainably.

🚨 URGENT PLANT PEST ALERT 🚨

The invasive glassy-winged sharpshooter has been found on grape plants sold at Sacramento-area Costco stores, including the Woodland location.

This pest spreads Pierce’s disease, which is fatal to grapevines and can also harm almond, citrus, and ornamental plants. It does not pose a threat to people or pets.

If you purchased grape plants from a Sacramento-area Costco on or after April 21, 2026, do not return, move, dispose of, or compost the plant.

Contact the Yolo County Agriculture/Weights & Measures Department immediately to schedule an inspection and pickup:

Agricultural Commissioner Humberto Izquierdo is urging residents to take immediate precautions after the invasive glassy-winged sharpshooter was detected on grape plants sold at Sacramento area Costco stores, including the Woodland store. This leafhopper spreads Pierce’s disease, a bacterial infection that is fatal to grapevines and can also damage almond, citrus and ornamental plants, posing a significant threat to California agriculture and home gardens. The pest does not pose a threat to humans or animals.
