Today, Keller Army Community Hospital recognizes Memorial Day.

It is always customary to spend time remembering and honoring the countless Veterans who have served the United States throughout the country’s history.

On this day, Memorial Day 2025, we commemorate the men and women who died while in the military service of their country, particularly those who died in battle or because of wounds sustained in battle.

The purpose of Memorial Day is to memorialize the veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. We spend time remembering those who lost their lives and could not come home, reflecting on their service and why we have the luxury and freedom that we enjoy today.

In remembering the fallen, we should also consider how we can support and safeguard their grieving families and loved ones who are left behind: the spouses, fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, sisters, brothers, and friends. There really aren’t proper words, but we do live in gratitude each and every day for the precious gift that they have given to us.

To those men and women that gave the ‘ultimate sacrifice’…Keller Army Community Hospital salutes you.

Keller Army Community Hospital recognizes and celebrates National Medical Coders Day – Saturday, May 23, 2026.

Medical Coder Day is observed to recognize and celebrate the work and dedication of medical coders country wide. Coders are committed to the analysis and classification of medical data. The information gathered by medical coders is used by companies, organizations, and even the government because it is essential to improve the healthcare management system.

Without medical coders and billers successfully coding and billing claims, the medical practice/facility would not have the funding needed to provide patient care.

Medical coders are professionals who analyze and classify different types of medical data using various forms of code. That data is then shared with healthcare providers, government facilities, and international agencies to be applied in research, studies, and constant improvement of the services they provide.

By using standardized coding, medical coders provide reliable data across various other reports published on different dates. To arrange the best reports, medical coders have a vast knowledge of anatomy, medical terminology, and even legal aspects of the healthcare industry, as well as good management of computer or paper-based data. These professionals can work by following three fundamentals: abstraction, assignment, and review. First, the coder goes through the patient’s medical history, then transforms it all into code, and, finally, reviews it all, checking to see if the information collected and coded is relevant to the report’s final goal.

Keller is taking this moment to recognize and THANK all coders for their hard work and dedication.

For more information on medical coding, go to https://www.aapc.com/resources/what-is-medical-coding-certification.

Keller Army Community Hospital would like to introduce our newest facility dog – Tyler.

Tyler is a golden retriever who will be handled by Col. Andrew Hover, Deputy Commander for Nursing & Health Services at Keller.

Tyler comes to Keller from the America's VetDogs’ program. America's VetDogs provides independence, mobility and companionship for veterans and military personnel. As a Military Facility Dog, the canines provide animal assisted intervention to wounded soldiers and active-duty personnel during their journey to recover at military installations, military and VA medical centers, and VA nursing homes. These canines become an integral part of the staff by providing comfort to beneficiaries, staff, and visitors, and boosting morale.

For more information on America’s VetDogs, go to https://www.vetdogs.org/.

Tyler is the first America’s Vet Dog handled by a U.S. Army Nurse Corps member, and the second canine to assign to Keller. Zeus, who was commissioned as a ‘Colonel’ during a May 29, 2025, ceremony, arrived at here in December 2024 and is handled by Col. Sean J. Hipp, the Hospital Commander.

Zeus will leave Keller in June due to PCS.

Please join us in welcoming ‘Tyler’ to West Point and the Keller Army Community Hospital team.

Keller Army Community Hospital and many other organizations – military and civilian – recognize Armed Forces Day (Saturday, May 16, 2026).

On this day, we pay special tribute to the men and women of the Armed Forces; citizens unite and honor our military heroes for their patriotic service in support of the United States of America.

The History of Armed Forces Day

Although, originally, there were single day celebrations for each branch of the military – Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard – this format changed on August 21, 1949, when Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson announced the creation of Armed Forces Day.

The annual celebration now commemorates all branches of the military during one solitary day to promote unity among the military branches. The first official ‘Armed Forces Day’ took place on May 20, 1950, and was themed “Teamed for Defense.”

In addition, Armed Forces Day also plays an essential part in educating society and expanding public knowledge of the military, and the role they play in the community.

In 1961, John F. Kennedy declared Armed Forces Day a national holiday.

To the men and women of the U.S Military…Keller Army Community Hospital Salutes You.
