Nearly $24 million in visitor spending — and another year of tourism growth for West Point and King William County! 🌅

The latest Virginia Tourism Corporation data shows that visitors spent $23.87 million in our communities in 2025, continuing a streak of annual growth that dates back to 2020.

But the story is about much more than numbers. It’s about the restaurants, shops, farms, attractions, events, organizations, and people who welcome visitors, create memorable experiences, and showcase all there is to discover here.

Through Visit West Point & King William VA, we’re proud to share their stories, promote the experiences that make this area special, and invite more people to discover this corner of Virginia.

We’re grateful for how far tourism has come in West Point and King William County — and even more excited about what’s ahead.

Reminder ⏰

Smurfit Westrock will begin its annual evacuation drills at the West Point Mill next week. These drills are conducted each year to test the Mill’s notification systems and ensure personnel are prepared to carry out their roles and responsibilities during a safe and orderly evacuation.

The drills will take place each Monday at 3:15 PM, beginning September 14th through October 5th.

During each drill, community members may hear the Mill’s steam whistle and see Mill personnel mustering in front of the facility.

Please be aware that these are planned drills and there is no cause for alarm.

Business, retired, or just showing up in a ball cap — if you can give two hours on Saturday, October 3, you’re in.

Wear your company colors if you’ve got them. If you don’t, wear the free 2026 staff shirt and still walk the festival like you own it. You’ll work a short shift with new friends and get entered to win one of 25 vendor-donated prizes.

Grand prize: a local air tour from Colonial Air Tours.

We will never forget. 🇺🇸

This morning, on September 11, the American flag is making its way through the streets and across the bridges of West Point once again — this time carried by Chesty Puller 10K runner Erin Williams as part of her 25-mile run in remembrance of 9/11.

Twenty-five years after the attacks of September 11, 2001, we remember the lives lost, the families forever changed, the first responders who ran toward danger, and the service members whose lives and missions were shaped by that day.

Here in West Point, displays of patriotism like this have a special resonance. For 18 years, our Town has hosted the Chesty Puller Memorial Twin Bridge 10K in honor of our hometown hero, Lt. Gen. Lewis B. “Chesty” Puller, and in tribute to the brave men and women who have served our country. The race has always been about more than miles across our bridges. It is about service, sacrifice, remembrance, community, and carrying those stories forward.

Seeing Erin carrying the flag through West Point this morning was a meaningful reminder of that spirit — and of a promise our nation made 25 years ago.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget. 🇺🇸

Over the years we have shifted the festival area some. Some have been confused. So save this post and make notes of where things will be on Saturday, October 3rd.

You will find festival activities:
🦀 Main Street from 11th Street to 6th Street
🦀 Festival loop from Main Street down 9th Street, along the alley behind Town Park, through the parking lot between 8t Street and 7th Street, and back up 7th Street to Main Street.

All activities will be within those two areas.

Vendors including artisians, small businesses, organizations, and food vendors will be spread out throughout the festival map. If the festival occupies the street, you will find vendors lining it.

Throughout the festival you will find live music, educational stations, demonstrations, entertainment, hands-on activities, fresh steamed crabs & shrimp, and smiling faces!

We look forward to seeing you for the main event on Saturday, October 3rd in West Point, VA!

Friday, on the 25th anniversary of 9/11, I'm planning to run 25 miles in West Point, VA --four + laps of the Chesty Puller 10K - West Point, Virginia route that goes through downtown West Point and across both bridges. Of course I'll run with the American Flag, per usual.
