Pillar of the community

Diana Zink

Submitted by Liz Curl (and a little extra by me)

“She has gone above and beyond for any kid that has ever met her. She has shown love, kindness, and patience to countless kids. I don’t think I could have made it through years at WP without knowing her. No one goes unnoticed when in her presence. She is a light to be around on the darkest of days.
She will have your back endlessly regardless of what it is. She volunteers when needed, and continues to support the kids of West Point. She helped make one of the best RiverDays this past year & worked endlessly among others to make that happen. She has and always will be a West Pointer & a true friend.”

I have no memories of life before I knew Mrs. Diana. She has spent her life taking care of so many generations of the children of West Point, continuing to this day.

I don’t have a memory of this town without Fran. Fran has always been so loving, generous and truly a member of the family to all who needs some extra love.

Pillar of the community

West Point Fire Department

Submitted by Joseph Frost

“I would like to nominate every individual past and present along with their families that volunteer their time in the fire department. These folks risk their lives for the safety of our community and ask for nothing in return”

Pillar of the community

Joseph Frost

“family man and pillar of the the community through his hard work on projects throughout the city. He's largely responsible for or involved in things like the picnic tables, the Bee branch Bridge, the blessing box, the playground, open gym days, cleaning headstones in the cemetery, signage, clean ups, and anything that needs some elbow grease to get done. He always elicits help from his family and anyone willing to help, and his whole family is on board helping with those projects. He sets the example on how to involve family and strangers in everything fun and volunteering for the community.”

Pillar of the community

Lisa Curl

Two contributors

I have known Lisa my entire life. She is kind, generous, and loves to help others. She assists in handing out donations from the church. She is always looking for ways to make sure others have what they need. She is very active in numerous churches in West Point and outside of the town. This is how she had been my entire life. Somehow she also remembers everyone’s birthday and makes it a point to wish them happy birthday. She currently is the Hardin County elementary bus monitor.

Second contribution from Scott Young
“I don't know enough about her to do a write up, but i know lisa curl is a pillar of this community. she has supported and contributed to every good cause and happening in this town. there isn't a school function, city event or frankly anything i haven't seen her helping with.”

Pillar of the community

Gary Masterson

Submitted by Scott Young

“Without him the gift that is Fort Duffield wouldn't be what it is today. He actively recruits for, participates in and promotes for the farmers market, the parks and honestly anything that needs volunteering for. An endless source of information, connections, and positive ideas, he works behind the scenes on many of the beneficial projects in this city and inspires others to help.”

Pillar of the Community

Billy Collins

Submitted by Scott Young

“Billy is no longer with us. Billy was the epitome of what a good neighbor is supposed to be. There wasn't a person he wouldn't help with whatever needed doing. He always had a smile and a positive attitude, usually a joke to lighten any mood. He evacuated his Tenants before his own home during floods, he did repairs and service for neighbors and strangers without question and often before he even had time to change out of his uniform after work. He selflessly volunteered his time and energy to any worthy cause in West point and for Hardin County as part of the sheriff's department.”

I’d like to start with a honored memory

Our first pillar of the community to be shared is Nellie.

Nellie is no longer with us, however she embodied everything pride in your town is suppose to be. Nellie was West Points biggest fan. I do not remember playing a basketball game that she wasn’t in the stands. She loved everyone she met. She always welcomed you with a bright smile and warm laugh. Nellie fills all of my childhood memories and I know without a doubt she would be front row at all baseball games and buying boxes of Girl Scout cookies at every booth sale.

Pillars of the community past and present leave their imprint and make us a better place. Please share your past and present nominations.
