EMS Week – Save A Life Day

Today, we recognize the power of everyday people stepping up in an emergency. On Save A Life Day, we are highlighting the importance of CPR and Stop the Bleed training — two skills that can make the difference between life and death before first responders arrive.

At Air Evac Lifeteam AEL 001, we know emergencies can happen anytime, anywhere. Immediate action by a bystander can dramatically improve outcomes for patients experiencing cardiac arrest or severe bleeding.

CPR Saves Lives
High-quality CPR can double or even triple a person’s chance of survival during cardiac arrest.

Stop the Bleed Saves Lives
Knowing how to control severe bleeding with pressure, packing, or a tourniquet can keep someone alive until EMS arrives.

This EMS Week, we encourage everyone to take the time to learn these lifesaving skills. You never know when you may be called upon to help a family member, friend, coworker, or stranger in need.

Tuesday night at our training drill we wanted to recognize our 2 Junior Firefighters that graduated High School May 8, 2026. Adam plans to stick around West Plains so he decided to apply for a Firefighter position. As of May 12, he was promoted to a probationary firefighter. Tim is leaving soon to attend a college in Missouri. We will miss him but wish him well in his future endeavors. Congratulations Adam and Tim.

Are you age 16 to 18 and still in High School? Have you thought about a career in the Fire Service? Do you have reliable transportation, insurance on your vehicle and a valid Missouri driver's license? We are starting a new Junior program for this year. You would have to live in the City Limits of West Plains or within our Fire district. If you are interested in applying, please stop by our fire station on K Hwy behind the ambulance shed for an application. If you have any questions about your address being in our coverage area, please message us. Your parent or parents would be asked to come to your interview if you apply and we set up an interview for you. We currently have 4 spots open. This program does require you to attend training drills from one to three times a month as well as some of the incident calls we have. Please message us or stop by the fire station if you have any questions. Interviews will be set up soon and spots are limited.

If you would like to purchase a first aid kit for $10 each, please message us or stop by the fire station. These are definitely good to have in case something happens while you are outside doing yard work, playing sports, or traveling. Money goes to finish the Memorial Garden improvements at our Station.

Tis the season for outdoor activities or traveling. We have just the thing for you. 40 Piece Home and Auto First Aid kits. $10 each. We will meet you in West Plains at almost anytime of the day or night. Just message us to make arrangements. We plan to be at the Creator's Company on West Highway 160 this Saturday at their outdoor vendor event. We would love to see you. The money goes to finish up improvements in our Memorial Garden for Fallen Firefighters that have passed away in our department. Thank you to those that have already supported us. First aid Kits are $10 each.
