Ozark Independent Living Ozark Independent Living (O.I.L.) is a non-profit, non-residential facility, which serves people with disabilities.

We offer Independent Living Services, Consumer Directed Services and In-Home Personal Attendants. Our five core service areas are:
- Information and referral
- Advocacy
- Peer Support
- Independent Living Skills Training
- Transitioning (from nursing facilities back to home and from high school to community and workforce for students with disabilities)

OIL just kicked off its new disability awareness program, IMAGINE ABILITIES, at the Boys and Girls club here in West Plains. Created by IL Specialist Sherri Howell, the program gives kids a chance to experience what certain disabilities might feel like in real life.

This week’s focus was vision impairment, and the kids jumped right into every activity. They stayed engaged, had fun, and walked away with a better understanding of what living with a disability can be like. Special thanks to IL Specialist Kayleigh Mooney for all her help in this endeavor.

Help me celebrate IL Specialist Sherri H. on her 1-year anniversary here at OIL! Sherri joined us from West Plains Jr. High School, where she served as a dedicated Special Education Teacher, and we are truly grateful she chose to bring her talent and heart to our team.

Sherri and her husband, Brett, have been together for 17 years and are the proud parents of four extraordinary kids. When she’s not making a difference at OIL, you’ll find her enjoying time with her family and happily lost in a good book.

Congratulations, Sherri! Your impact is felt every day and we’re so glad you’re part of the OIL family.

OIL had an absolute blast hosting the West Plains SWAT summer school crew at the MO Department of Conservation for a day of catch-and-release fun. The fish were biting, the kids were smiling, and the good times were REEL - everyone hauled in plenty of fish and even more laughs! Thank you to IL Specialist Crystal Burnett for such a memorable day! 😊
